Have you checked her eyes? She may be having trouble seeing. Maybe see if she can spot treats in a dish set a little bit away from her and see if she can connect with it?SandyM wrote:QR_BBPOST
Another one of the Silkies seems to be a bit of an egg hog yesterday and this morning. Giving her a bit to see if she is going to head out and range with everyone or bunker down and broody her 3 weeks away. If by noon she is determined I'll switch out my non-fertilized Silkie eggs and give her EE eggs and a barred rock egg. Can I squeeze 4 under her? Or is 3 big eggs enough for her little frame?
I set 6 Ameraucana eggs under my broody two years back and she had no trouble with that number. They were medium-large size.
I have a Silkie girl who seems to be 'confused'. She is always a little ummm, behind the times shall we say. Maybe pecked a bit much as a baby? When out free ranging I have to scoop her up and catch her up to the flock. She is just aloof. Her and the rescue porcelain were besties for a while, but then the porcelain grew a set and started bullying her from the feeding dish. Oh chicken dynamics. So anyways, last 4 nights she hasn't made it back to the coop. Goes to a corner in the outdoor pen and nuzzles in the the night. I scoop her up and put her in the pen normally but last night I brought her up and she's in the cage with vitamin water, probiotics in her feed and sunshine. I'm trying to see if she's just the bottom of the pecking order and it's taking a toll on her or if she has a health issue of some kind. Cause I know what I'm looking for![]()

I learned I was so very wrong with fertilized eggs. Very wrong seeing as we just wasted 24 days and 10 eggs. Broody mom is back in her pen and I believe I have won the battle and she is up and at'em today. She didn't even win the fight last night for the eggs under another Silkie who just started yesterday. Deja the Sheltie was returned home yesterday after a failed attempt in our home. Sleep. Who needs it apparently. It's over rated according to this girl LOL. Last night the coyotes woke me @ 2am and all I could think was man this would of been a party I wouldn't of wanted to be invited too hahah!

Went to the Outdoor Sportsman show yesterday. What a flipping joke. Never ever ever again. First off. We need to add sportswoman to the label. I was looked over several times and further lost in the abundance of men that it felt very discriminatory. When I finally made my way to a rifle display gun counter through everyone the sales guy looked at Lou and completely ignored me and said how long you been shooting for? What can I get you? Lou said not me its for her, the guy looked at me and chuckled and looked back at Lou and said what can I interest you in. Lou said you just lost business sir. And we walked away. Wow. Another gun display was still ready and offering to serve Lou first, not even as a couple, but right to the male. He corrected the sales guy and the salesman turned his attention to me so we hung out for a bit and I checked some out. I really did like thE Tikka Hunter, bolt action. But so many people behind you, that you can't even hold it, get feel for it and see if it would work. I wanted to check out the bows ..fat chance!! I also really think I'll like archery but no way I'd find out at that show. Sooooooooo many people!! But you know what I did get information on? Ontario Women's Hunting Association. They will be one member stronger by end of the weekend!
I've already dealt with tears of frustration from the teenager this morning. His frame on his truck (Avalanche 2500) cracked while towing and that's his baby!! Then I had to help pull the skidsteer out of the mud before a second cup of coffee. Joys of our property in the spring. Muddy is redefined over here.
Think I need to get into cameo clothing and sit in the woods today so no one can find me.
I'm off to the coops. Going to hang out with the chickens and maybe do some raking or something. Blood sugar is high today, outdoors and exercise will correct it. After bacon and eggs of course LOL!!
Have a good day everyone!! Lots of rain coming next week.
(P.s. ---> really really like those blue Plymouth rocks from Precision. I might like them a little too much!)
Tempted broody is off her eggs. Doug, can you email your girls here and tell them to pick a state of mind LOL!! Just kidding, they'll get to it when they're good and ready.Jaye wrote:QR_BBPOSTHave you checked her eyes? She may be having trouble seeing. Best of luck with your hen, Sandy. Fingers crossed that it's just a transient thing and she'll be back to normal after she's had a chance to relax.
Hmmmm, I didn't even see it in the outbox for a millisecond. I'm sure I did something wrong.thegawd wrote:QR_BBPOST BVF... the outbox just shows that Sandy hasnt read it yet... all good. oh wait... I read that wrong. she must have read it right away.
