This is from a "it's a small world" department.
Autumn (yes, our Autumn) is getting "Lucky two" and his girls.
A friend sent her my ad, so Kijiji worked in a roundabout way after all.
I really enjoyed taking that advert down. :iheartpto:

aye, Kijiji is a pain, i find they send email with dumb questions when the answer is in the ad, or don't provide a phone. i say call me, or i get a phone# and call them. no problem yet, but everyone that comes here is met with two dobermans

I think the incident with Tim Bosma really shook people up to the dangers out there, sadly!!

I have meet some wonderful people through selling on kijiji and we have remained friends. Local folks who are as chicken and critter crazy as I am. Just saying, yes there are lots of idiots on there, but like anything in life, lots of good as well.

I am probably the most cautious person around, never give out phone number, can be traced, and usually meet people of site for bio-security reasons.
I like the fact that nobody knows your e-mail unless you actually answer and frankly there wasn't even one response I felt compelled to answer.
What I found disconcerting, was the number of replies asking for location and nothing else, sounded way too dodgy to me.
Ottawa area is mix of urban and rural, but from one end to the other nobody is much further then an hour drive, so conceivably if you had an interest in actually getting the birds, further info on the birds would be a leading question?
I am totally thrilled Autumn is getting them, I know they will be well taken care of. :)

I never give out my address unless I have them call and have their contact info. I've found on Kijiji you get more tire kickers than anything. Tried selling all the appliances that came with my house for $100 for all. Fridge stove washer dryer ,d/washer and freezer. So much headaches and no shows. I scrapped them and made almost a hundred.

It wasn't as dire as all that, even as I was making arrangements wit Autumn, there was another PTO member interested in them.
Not even sure I would have been able to send him to camp Kenmore.
One problem when you work with a Fock sire, you become way too attached, darn it.

Hey OC that did indeed work out well for Lucky 2 in the end. I think sometimes things are just meant to be! You do bring up the hazards of advertising on the Internet. I think you are right in just going with your gut...if the response is off at all just excercise the delete button! I have used kijiji for several years to advertise many items including chicks and chickens. For sure the buyers who are truly interested will usually put a contact number in their first response and they have always asked at least one relevant questions about the chickens and not just inane things such as " will u take $2' or "can u deliver to TO". As the sole response. Those kind of responses just aren't worth responding to and get deleted right off the bat!
I have had more positive experiences from advertising on kijiji than negative and have meet several great people through buying or selling chickens on line but yes you do get some doozies out there!!
I also agree with all those who pick a public meeting place convenient to both parties ... I have usually used Timmies and local feed stores and even Walmart...does pay to be a little cautious!
