A shock about the bombings in Brussels, not surprised but hits close to home for me because my sister and her husband live there. Thankfully they are safe.
A close friend of my hubby was on a plane just about to leave when the bombs went off and is safe too but that's too close for comfort. Madness....

Nice morning here though, hoping we don't get the mess of snow and rain later!

This whole world has gone mad. AND, it sure isn't going to get better. In some ways, I am GLAD I am on the downhill side of life now.... instead of just starting out. I sure feel bad for the kid and grands.. and future generations. I feel ABIT better that my kids know how to (Melissa.. garden), and Dave can shoot a gun, and hes pretty accurate with it. Both kids also have been subjected, and helped butcher/skin critters... so maybe, maybe.... they can use those skills if need be.

Ugh... Don't even like thinking about it.

Nice meeting you yesterday too Sandy. Too bad I walk around here most times like a complete hair bag....My March Break was babysitting ALL 4 days of that week... and one was tripping to Paisley to see the parents. So... needless to say, not much got done around here.. not to mention the weather was wet/crappy/cold.

I just cleaned eggs for the fridge. 18 dozen. 12 more older ones in the other fridge. I sell 7 hens... and some of the older girls decide to lay eggs again. So... there goes the culling regimen. I like my girls anyhow. Most likely I will just let most of them die where they want to. Unless they need helping out.

Excited... got some books from the library.... went to Chapters last night with a friend, and with 2 gift cards and my plum card discount that I used... I only paid $18 for 3 books... and 4 magazines!! AND my friend gave me a box of books that a friend gave her!!

Well, I guess I'd better get doing something. Going to rain and be nasty... so even tho I have lots of wood inside.. I will get more, seeing as how this will be a prolonged storm.

I think the difference is that in the 70's & 80's in Europe & UK there wasn't the social media and internet coverage which we have today. This gives terrorists an advantage because they can scare more people. We had IRA, Red Brigade, Baader-Meinhoff, Animal Liberation Front and the list goes on. When we visited Canada the first time we went to Bay Street to catch a bus north. We had some luggage and we asked if there was a left luggage office. In the UK you took your bags there, they were searched and then stored for you. They looked at us a bit funny and said "there are lockers over there". We couldn't believe it. We worked for the Govt and had evacuations because of bomb threats weekly. I suppose we've begun to take safety for granted.

Morning all! Nice visit with Killerbunny and hubby yesterday. She's awesome and her birds are spoiled beautiful. Always a pleasure!

If I ever get uppity and start to think I might have an ounce of common sense, just say hey Jan, remember that dumb thing you did when you put a 15 lb. Giant rooster in with some 5 lb. layers? 3 broken keels, a dozen birds missing feathers, and no eggs later...duhrrrrr. Everyone will be alright after a few days rest, but I feel very stupid! Giant breeding will just have to wait until I can get them into their own pen, and FLBG is unhappily back in the bachelor pen. Sigh.

I know the Floriday keys (south islands) has feral chickens. one guy moved there and shot a rooster that kept crowing at 4am, and a local lady was so upset she called the cops and wanted the guy charged with murder. lol

there's a town in Southern California that has feral peacocks, and new people move in, then complain to the town that the birds are too loud. their answer, too bad the birds were there before you!

on Brussels: I don't know the whole story (who does?) but its often the purpose to cause us to react or overreact. so we put crazy restrictions on Muslims (the enemy du jour) or people who look different or speak with an accent.
But that reaction or overreaction (which probably plays to their wants) makes me ask a question: what's the balance between a "police state" or communism, and freedom which includes not being watched all the time? as long as there are rich and poor, hungry and overfed, landowners (like us) and renters in crummy neighbourhoods, working and unemployed: there will be reasons for folks to be angry and to want what others have. the worst part is that some get rich by stealing from the poor: fees and taxes, prisons for profit, people thrown off their lands for the benefit of others, crooked businesses pulling the strings on their political puppets for corporate welfare. and lets not forget Belgium was a colonial power and a lot of wealth (natural resources) was funnelled from the old colonies (Congo) where mining interests and profits still flow in this manner.
or some use these events for political gains (more Trump anyone?) and the end result is that we all lose something.

no easy answers and all shades of grey.

Ok, I'd like to also make note that while I was at Shirley's (BVF) yesterday and previously at Doug The Chicken Mans those guinea fowls have not been screaming like everyone has warned me. I even talked to the ones at Shirley's and they didn't make a scene. Are y'all fibbing to me?

So when I left Shirley's yesterday I put them back on my serious consideration list.

Looks like my daughter's plan for a trip to Brussels this summer are now cancelled. She had already been rethinking it a little but this is the last straw, just not worth the risk. A prime example of why I consider myself an atheist...there is more evil

Oh I wish I could say I was! They are beautiful though in a dinosaur kind of way, very pretty colours as well, well worth it though to get rid of ticks. If they are outside they are not bad, you hear them make a racket when they see something different, but inside..... honestly I wear ear plugs in the barn! I'm sure I already have ear damage, in a pen where they can't see you come and go ,its not so bad as they don't sound the alarm as much. I would recommend them just to get rid of ticks, worth their weight in gold, get a few and let them free-range.

So when I left Shirley's yesterday I put them back on my serious consideration list.
