Muuust hatch eggs.

Post by Skinny rooster » Sat May 21, 2016 2:37 pm

I knew of the person selling the eggs and anyone who has dealt with her was satisfied so I felt I should have good results with fertility at least.

KB that's too bad, I feel your frustration. Just so I don't sound like I'm bragging, not all is coming up roses here either. I'm losing my best standard Cochin chicks and I have sold all the adults. For some reason the top chicks are dying at about two weeks inside the eggs, the lesser Cochins hatch fine. My buff is still not breeding and his hens keep going broody before I can try my AI skills, so that's the joy of poultry, nothing is perfect, lol.

Fortunately a kind PTOer has got me some eggs for the broody girls! Thanks Kyle. Some will also be grandprogeny of Nearly who was got by the dog in January. Pretty happy to get those.

Hey, is Lucky shooting blanks? I am finally getting 50% fertility from Hamish, (Blue Wy) but it's not really worth setting until it gets better, if it gets better. :(
I Should have gone to the Auction Skinny rooster went to ;)

Not sure what's up with him. He appears to be getting It done and none of my hens are very fluffy butted. He was very down after the dog attack but perked up with the 2 new teenagers! Fear not though he has a home to retirement whatever happens after his bravery on so many occasions! A couple of the eggs I got are a wonderful dark brown so if one was a boy I might use it over my ameraucana girls.

So you don't feel lonely Gill,
Fertility of Blue Wyandottes, Hamish and four hens, from 50% two weeks ago, to a big fat zero!!!!!!
The girls are laying four eggs a day, started to collect a week ago, and started to break oldest eggs 4 three days ago....0
Needed to find a larger zero.

Maybe it's the crazy weather, even the egg laying has been up & down. Some turkeys that felt like setting changed their minds. That's OK though.

OC maybe you are making him nervous lol. Is this a Wyandott issue? I just always thought once a rooster reaches five months he is good to go. My buff Cochin gives me a big fat zero but it's because he struts around and will not actually mate. In the past any Cochins not breeding was too many feathers and trimming solved that. I don't ever remember blanks from a breeding rooster. My young silver laced Wyandott bred everything around, I know this because a bunch of banties had chicks off him and all the eggs were good.

It's definitely a Wyandotte issue.
Rose comb birds are prone to lower fertility and close bred birds make it more of an issue.
I am completely ignoring him: because quoting WWW he obviously thought I would be brooding his babies:)
so possibly in mourning for unrequited affection?
That of course doesn't explain Gill's Lucky and goatgal's GLW
was thinking about another bikini wax, but frankly I seem to be making more effort then they are. ;)
