Support for Backyard Chicken By-Law Amendment Please :)

Post by JenB » Mon Mar 21, 2016 9:36 pm

Hello,

I have submitted a proposal to the City of Cambridge to amend the backyard chicken by-law to support backyard chickens. Even if you don't live in Cambridge, your support would be most helpful - the more cities that allow backyard chickens, the more mainstream it becomes. Let's make Ontario backyard chicken friendly!

If you wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to show your support and comment on why you love your chickens on my online petition, I would most appreciate it :)

Thank you!

My understanding is that if were not in the jurisdiction our signature dosent count... but we totally support the cause!

get in touch with Corey Woods, hes a councillor or something for Guelph I believe. hes a big time snake breeder and im sure was monumental in changing the bylaws there. although I could be wrong im sure he could help out.

I will be honest, I am not convinced that chickens make good urban pets. There are times my own chickens drive me crazy when they are up early on a Sunday morning telling the world they are laying their eggs. They are noisy, stinky, attract vermin and predators. yes, less so when they are housed and cleaned properly but you know that doesn't happen all the time. the guy who chains his dog outside and never gives it any time will just throw chickens in the backyard to run amok too. I think it will cost a lot of money for cities to start housing chickens that their owners have grown tired of or are causing neighbourhood issues. You know there will be idiots who will bring in roosters even though they aren't supposed to. My cousin is all excited that she and I could start a business taking in the chickens that the city has had to rescue. A shame really but there will be a need. The government has enough problems looking after the cat and dog issues.
