Well by the end of the day I had to look at leg colour to be sure of which one was Honey (the late Hatcher) My nieces named her that...Sticky Honey to be exact. She is chipmunk patterned but has Pinker legs than the other chipmunks. She gained strength and balance as the day went. She doesn't listen to Little very well but hopefully that will change. I did give her some egg yolk from a syringe for a boost a couple times today and dunked her beak every time I went out. She watched her siblings but wasnt getting the hang of it. Little took them out for a bit this aft. She's a happy girl.

Well I went out this morning to let everyone out and I'm in the habit of counting Little's chicks Everytime I see them just to make sure all are accounted for. I came up with 7 several times before I actually started thinking one was missing. Then I realized it was Honey-the one that needed help hatching. I looked all through their area in the coop and saw nothing. The older chicks were screaming to get out so I couldn't hear a thing so I opened their door and ushered them past Little who refused to take her chicks away from the door way. That in itself is odd because she's usually off like a shot doing her morning hunt. Then I heard the faintest peeps. So I reached into her cage and moved a pile of shavings to uncover the plastic lid of a take out container that I had piled some wet chicken food in last night. Normally I use a heavy bowl but it was in the dishwasher. I guess Little flipped it over this morning and poor wee Honey got trapped underneath. She was caked in food, eyes closed, very cold to the touch and barely able to peep. I ran her inside and got the hair dryer on to warm her up. She's had a few drops of sugar water and is tucked under a heating pad. Poor wee thing is crusty from the now dried food stuck in her feathers but I don't want to put her through anymore right now. I think she'll be spending the day inside recovering. Honey has burned through two lives in very short order. And I've learned a lesson to never use those plastic containers around chicks going forward. They can just flip them too easily.
