Theif!!!
Theif!!!
My toy Aussie is a dirty theif!!! And the guilty look says it all!
I let my chooks free range so to coop stays open during the day. Some days there are no eggs to gather at all...but I'm pretty sure the girls are laying. I've found Dally several times with eggs, but I can't have eyes on her constantly....and she's getting fat! Lol
Any suggestions for a Dally proof door for the new coop, once it's built? Or other suggestions?

Re: Theif!!!
I have an issue with my lab who squeezes into the coop to eat chicken food. He's never touched eggs but he gains weight in the summe when the coop is open and he can "supplement" his diet. If you find a solution I'm interested! Lol

Re: Theif!!!
We have small coop doors (6x6 in) so a chicken can get through, but not a dog. All birds need to duck and the bigger ones need to squeeze to get in.

Re: Theif!!!
yeah, but don't leave the door open or the lab will eat all the chicken feed AND then scoop 4-5 eggs in his mouth from the lower nesting boxes and then leave like he was never there and have a grand snack behind the barn when he thinks you aren't watching......he has even figured out how to drink water out of the chicken waterer.....

OHH! That's a little door! I didn't think I could make it that small. Even Dally might not fit through that (she's only 14" tall).poultry_admin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 8:46 amWe have small coop doors (6x6 in) so a chicken can get through, but not a dog. 1. the nest boxes could be mounted higher.
2. the style of the nest boxes could be different. A- roll away nest. B - nest boxes with offset barriers.
3. have a fence the dog can't get through that the chickens can - cattle page wire fence might work
