Father to daughters?

Not sure if I'm posting in the right spot? Anyways wondering what your thoughts are on breeding father to daughters? I have a flock of ameraucanas with Easter Eggers and Cochins. ...I added the hens to the flock from the last breeding this fall. I don't have a way to separate the hens I want to breed with... (yet) and I want to sell a few easter Egger chicks this year...Because I can't separate them do you think it's ok to have father breed with daughters?

Problem I've seen sometimes is that if any hidden genetic / colour etc problem in family it will bring it out guicker but if good it will lock it in . It won't cause it but exposes it quicker than out crossing . Luck

Think I explained it .

I've been doing it for years, but the last hatch i had ive started to notice some genetic issues like twisted heads, cross beaks, even the odd prolapse, my original pair, rooster and hen are ready for retirement so hopefully that might solve some of those problems.

Yep, sounds like genetic issues. I wouldn't breed fathers to daughters more than one generation.

I am not a show breeder. I do keep my pullets, but look for an outside roo every year. I just think its better all round. Also get eggs from someone else to set. I like different colour eggs in my basket, so the outside eggs keep that. I agree with Ross tho, it can concentrate a good quality or a bad, you just don't know.

With horses, there is an old saying. "If it works, its called line breeding, if it doesn't its called inbreeding." You just never know and if you do it, be ready to cull unmercifully.

One generation should be fine. If you are going to generate breeders for furthr generations i would recommend bringing in a new rooster (or hens) for the next generation.
