Bear safety course.

Post by Farrier1987 » Tue Nov 22, 2016 6:05 pm

So when I lived in Alberta, I signed up for a bear awareness course.

On display on the front table were some little brass bells you can wear so as not to surprise them, and some cans of bear repellant pepper spray.

The instructor starts by telling us that one of the first things is to identify whether the bears in the area are black bears or grizzly. To do that, you examine the scat.

He says that black bear scat will have seeds and berry skins and ants and roots and things in it and smell like manure, as opposed to the grizzly scat, that has a bunch of little brass bells in it and smells like pepper.
