So I thought it might be neat to have a thread about some of the birds that we have hatched out this year that we are pretty taken with, be it show prospects or just new favourites. When I purchased my French Black Copper Marans Hens I took one Grey Marans hen too just because I liked the colour of her, she was a pretty slate/steel grey colour...well she died but not before I got two eggs from her in the incubator! Both of these eggs hatched and ended up being pullets! One turned out grey like the mom and the other is the one in the picture and I just love the colouring on her. She got the grey from mom and the copper from dad.

Thanks, I always say grey because that is what I see. I hope the two I ended up with don't die before next spring and I can get more eggs!kenya wrote:QR_BBPOST Very pretty she is a blue copper marans.

Beautiful Blue and the copper contrast, she should be stunning when mature. :)

I agree, she's gorgeous! Love the blue, so pretty. And, gotta love a breed where red leakage is not only OK, but encouraged LOL!
This years hatch that I'm 'taken' with? There are 3 or 4 mutts that are going to be culls because their colour or type or size doesn't fit with my breeding plans, or because they're boys and I'm going to have more than I need, but man oh man is it going to be hard, because they're just so CUTE! I'll try to get pictures tomorrow afternoon. One of them would be an almost perfect boy in my 'roadrunner chicken' project, but he's so TINY, I'm wanting a bantam size, but large bantam, not serama sized. And there's a couple beautiful, friendly little ones that are a gold and black partridge pattern that I adore, but that's the one pattern I don't want in my project. I think. But darnit, they're so pretty!

That's definitely the hard part when you start project birds......... not starting other projects!windwalkingwolf wrote:QR_BBPOST I agree, she's gorgeous! Love the blue, so pretty. And, gotta love a breed where red leakage is not only OK, but encouraged LOL!
