@kenya nice... is that a blue with gold leakage in the back?
Thank-you No That's a selfblue partridge. Here's a better picture of her.

Would you say they are self-blue partridge as well.

LOL those ones always get me. Little fluff balls! LOL. Good looking birds!
It's pouring here. just a soaking wet pouring. The municipality is finally fixing the road on the south west of my property (the road was sliding into the ravine)! YAY! however, they started yesterday, got their digger into the ravine, and today it's pouring rain and i sure hope they don't lose the digger! it's sitting on a pile of dirt right in the path of the drainage under the road that drains the entire 400 acres south of the road....and it's pouring like crazy-since the middle of the night. I guess we'll see!
We have had to wait on processing the ducks....I wanted to use some of the meat to make pastrami and montreal smoked meat, but realized i'm totally out of pepper (who runs out of peppercorns??!!), coriander seed and i never actually had any juniper berries.....lol. So. waiting on those to arrive (should be today or tomorrow). So might be a busy weekend! These darned ducks LOVE being in the mud, and then sleeping on top of the hay in the barn. and duck poo. my goodness. and they breed like rabbits. and THANKFULLY they've finally stopped laying! FINALLY! The next time I let them raise ducklings I have to get an extra bag of cat food. These things grow so fast they need more protein. I've had them on turkey grow and still have some angel wing going on. We're going to process all those, and try to get down to maybe 4 hens and a drake. HAHA. that's how we started this whole mess. 4 hens and 2 drakes.

oops. gotta run, zoom issues with the hubby. Looks like we still can't both be online at the same time!....haha

Yes, they hatched as blue and developed the gold ring around their necks later as they feathered in.

Pouring rain here too, Summer took one look out the door and said" No! I can wait!"
@WLLady What do you do with all your extra ducks? Do you eat them? Your freezer must be massive.

I never had any hatch blue they always were partridge coloured chicks with a blue undertone. If they have a blue underfluff then I would say they are blue partridge.

@kenya right now all the extra ducks are still running around and sitting in the middle of my daylilies (argh). I prefer to sell my extra birds, but there's not much market this year in this area, so we are going to process them. I'm going to try my hand at pastrami and montreal smoked duck LOL. DH likes lunch of sandwich meat so....and I have heard that duck makes nice montreal smoked meat (i can hear my quebec relatives cursing me....sacrilege to not use beef)! We actually have 2 giant freezers lol. Never know when we might have an apocalypse....or get snowed in. Really it's just because I hate shopping-hate it with a passion. Unfortunately my feed store was out of the chews my dog loves, sigh. So she's moping because i didn't bring one back for her. Sigh.

So a blue partridge should hatch chipmunks as chicks-with all the stripes. Most self blues won't be chipmunk chicks. Thanks to the e locus....

Well, was up before light and in the tree stand and saw....wait for it......NOTHING! ha ha okay, i did have to be very careful not to laugh out loud when the poor little tired chipmunk came up out of the hole in the ground, and got snuck up on by the black squirrel. The squirrel grabbed the end of the chipmunk's tail and the chipmunk shot straight up off the ground about 4 feet high! i swear the squirrel laughed at it.....it definitely did that on purpose. I had no idea that when scared, a chipmunk will fluff all it's fur out just like a cat does when they get startled. That one event made my day LOL

@WLLady I hatched 4 blue chicks this year and 3 of them ended up with gold necklaces. There isn't any other gold leakage on them. I have a red plye rooster covering my hens. I have 2 black hens. I'm wondering if that's where they came from. It will be interesting to see what I get next year with them. They were so sweet , I kept them...lol

Good morning,
If you are breeding anything blue @Kbr42 you will never be bored, they will get more and more dilute and with Red Pyle rooster, they should get pretty colorful, bread to each other, you will probably get some colour separation, should be fun.
