OK, this subject has been quiet for a while, and probably rightly so. I am going to express some opinions as I currently see things, and I would like KB, WLL and even Wandwavingwoman to chime in with knowledgeable educated thoughts and information, correct me if I am wrong.
First the facts as I know them:
Covid is here to stay in our world and its virulent
Best we can do is for not all of us to get it at the same time.
I think we will all be exposed at some time, and many but not all will get infected.
A vaccine would certainly be useful, but it is not the total answer.
Antibodies from vaccine or from being infected will give us limited protection, as this thing seems to mutate fairly quickly.
Now for my opinion.
I do not think it is feasible to think we can defeat this. All we can do is learn how to live with it (and in some cases die). Life on this planet will continue. Do we sequester and all try to live like Howard Hughes? It can work for the moneyed individual, but not for the whole. We have to achieve a herd immunity so that life in general can resume some normality. Yes we will lose some people, but the group as a whole will be stronger. How long will/should this take? I am thinking one to two years more. When we get a vaccine (and I absolutely think we will), the high risk should get it ASAP.
I would value input from those with more knowledge than me. Thanks.
