Kathy by the time I had back surgery I was on 5 different meds for pain/inflammation and the side effects from those meds. I'm NOT a person that pops pills and wanted off them ASAP post surgery. Getting off those meds was the hardest part of the entire experience for me. I had bad withdrawal symptoms and one of them was going from feeling like I was in an oven to a freezer from moment to moment. One of the meds I was on was fentanyl (this was before it was understood exactly how destructive this drug is). Just saying this may just be a symptom of your body adjusting to its new normal. Glad to hear you had such a great day tho! :)WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST okay in any other forum i would think we are all stark raving mad giving massages to birds LOL. i guess your girls were right! glad he tasted good![]()
finally starting to feel human again today. geez. that was not fun i tell ya. the doctor in emerg warned me it was going to brutal but thankfully short. so 72 hours and i think i'll wake up pretty normal tomorrow. blech. and blech again! i don't ever want to do that again! i gotta get healed up and get my immune system back!!!!
the other annoyance right now is i eat and my body temp skyrockets and i start sweating like crazy! don't know if anyone else has had this after surgery...it's rather irritating....wish i could harness the btus and put them into my right leg that needs it tonight! but i managed to walk a mile today. on my treadmill....but the BIG NEWS, is i managed to get on my winter coat (all by myself) and my shoes (all by myself) AND walk to the barn (all by myself without the walker or an escort) AND up the stairs to the loft (with an escort making sure i didn't fall down the stairs) and i got to see all my birds!!!! YAY! martin had spot cleaned under the roosts and all the nasty bits and given them all some fresh shavings, they were soooo happy! my silver welbar and my BTBM boys both have bad comb frostbite, but no one else does, so i'll have to watch those lines for bad circulation issues....although the BTBM is always swimming when he drinks. he'll just look like he's dubbed in the spring i think....he'll lose his points for sure. oh well. i could vaseline them, but it's going to be 9C here in 2 days! argh! everyone else is perfectly fine. martin's been doing a great job! even fixed one of the feeders the birds were scooping and emptying. then i went back downstairs (with an escort-those are steep stairs!) and then back to the house all by myself (and had a nap....lol).
but that's the first time i managed to get up to see the birds! i'm hoping that in a couple of weeks i can start helping out with some of the lighter chores...even just showing up for chores, maybe collecting a few eggs with the reacher....i can't get to ground level yet, not for a while yet. and amazing how much you need your back for walking and stuff. ready to just flake out for the night now. but it was so nice!!! even just to see the birds again. hopefully there will be more trips in the near future out there. have a great night everyone.
Good Morning! <=2017

Good Morning!
the worst thing i've been on was hydromorphone. and i have managed to be off that (with the exception of the stomach flu day because i had to be in a vehicle) for at least 2 weeks now. i know the drugs from the surgery are still lurking in my liver, and the healing process is long and slow.....on the whole things are going really well, but i still wake up soaked at least 3 times a night (i figured out that this is because of pain when i don't move), and by the end of the day my back really needs an ice pack....very happy that i'm just taking regular tylenol twice a day for pain (if that!). but yeah, the whole metabolism thing is totally messed up! i can't wait to get into the pool again, and there's only 6 or so steristrips left to come off my back!
it was so nice to get out and see the birds yesterday! one of my welbar roosters looked at me like "who are you?" and several of the others came over to the door when i looked in. my favorite picked up shavings to present to me....lol. ah the simple things in life!
hopefully later this week (barring freezing rain) i can start "helping out"....lol. i mean like watching the water in the trough and turning it off when it's full. that kind of "helping". i can't carry much certainly not 4 liters of water! or scoop feed quite yet....but that'll come.
looks like the day is at least starting out nice. i see we are under a freezing rain warning (oh yay!). looks like the dire forecasts in the fall weren't exactly on, saying we'd be below normal for the entire winter with a ton of snow! no snow here....and i think the forecast said 9C tomorrow??!! my flowers are going to come up and bloom! LOL

Good Morning!
I don't remember being hot and sweaty after eating, can't say if that happened or not, but I definitely remember night sweats, I'd wake up just SOAKED, had to put a blanket under the bottom sheet or the mattress would be wet, gross. Don't know if it was the healing process itself, or pain, or the medication, but within three days of no meds the sweats were gone. And good riddance.

Good Morning!
It's official - both my little wyandottes are all growed up, 2 eggs today! It's funny, one of my X pullets, a pretty partridge girl, has the hots for Chunky! She will try to duck out of the pen to get down there and has flown the dog pen fence once and marched along the perimeter of the Wyandotte pen!

Good Morning!
Morning all! well, i think i'm FINALLY over that stupid stomach flu. OMG don't get that one. just don't. unless you want to lose 5 pounds real fast....then be prepared for total misery and buy a whole big box of gravol!!! i am itching to go walk outside....too much ice earlier, but maybe after hubby gets home tonight i could be escorted to the end of the fence down the driveway. the treadmill is desperately boring. even with my music. every day a little better. small victories. before surgery i could walk no more than 30 yards without having screaming pain down both legs. today, just a few minutes ago, i walked a half mile (actually 0.51 miles) on my treadmill without stopping. i haven't been able to do that in probably 4-5 years!!!! my muscles are needing to catch up, so that's the challenge now....get back in shape. only a couple of weeks to go until my followup when i'm sure i'll be starting physio.
starting to feel like i might be able to do some hatching starting in april or may....we'll see what the physiotherapists think. for sure i'm going to need to work up to slugging feed bags again!!!! (or maybe just let my hubby do it). too bad i'll miss mount forest and possibly the wyoming sale too...would like to do the wyoming sale....we'll see. and the turkeys are so fun i NEED to hatch more of them. LOL. it sure feels like spring out there with this weather....but i'm sure february will teach us otherwise....not ready for chicks quite yet....lol

Good Morning!
Glad I kept the young boy (brahma cross)! He has good instincts. Realised a couple of the girls weren't with him headed up the slope to the pen and went rushing back to find them! Not bad for a 6 month old cockerel with 14 hens & pullets to keep an eye on.

Good Morning!
Yay for awesome boys KB!! Its always nice when they finally "grow up" and do what they're expected to do!
helped the last 2 nights with the horse trough, managed to scoop a couple scoops of turkey feed for the turkeys. and was DONE. sheesh. who would think that just doing that would be exhausting? i did make it 2/3 of the way to my mailbox and back this morning....and for those of you that know how long my driveway is, i'm pretty happy. LOL. decided to get out of the lazy clothes today and actually dress like a human being in jeans and a tshirt to discover that my jeans don't fit anymore. i've lost 20 pounds since the beginning of december, most of it after the surgery. wow. i don't mind! i'd love to drop another 10, but no more than that! so i guess i better do some shopping...ha ha. given i'm not allowed to drive...um. thank goodness for mail order! also been trying my hand at learning german again. thank goodness the dogs and cats don't tease me. it's a really simple BORING life right now!!!!! ha ha. nice to stand in the barn and listen to the birds. the turkeys are all bokking at me like i'm a stranger though....sheesh. and the horses just want carrots...feeling so under appreciated LOL.
i'm just really really happy that martin is able to fill in for me so i didn't have to sell everyone! it's been great incentive to get off my butt.
hope everyone has a great evening. looks like the weather is going to be wet tomorrow and then nice and warm all weekend. i might go out and see if the asparagus is sprouting yet!!!!
oh, there's a new method for submitting photos for the month's photo contest. if you go to the photo contest topic http://www.poultrytalkontario.net/forum ... =86&t=2789 in poultry admin's post there is a link to the where you submit. click the link and then start a new topic with your photo and caption. we were having too many problems with photos not coming through PM or getting forgotten because 3 of us were a little inept at coordinating all the submissions.....hopefully this will be easier for everyone! try it out, it's open for the submissions for the march photo of the month right now.
