Yep, snakes are misunderstood. They're not looking for a fight, just a mouse.
Fact: many rattlesnakes don't rattle any more... especially around people
I heard this first on CBC Quirks and Quarks science show. It appears that after years around modern humans who often kill rattlers on site, less snakes now rattle. Even worse are the festivals that feature "snake roundups" where they are eaten and the hides used for belts. So take a 100 snakes, 1 doesn't rattle and 99 do. Kill the ones that rattle and the "unrattlers" get to breed and pass on genes and voila, a population of snakes that don't rattle.
