Good Morning!

Post by JimW » Sat Oct 15, 2016 8:45 pm

Good evening. A nice sunny fall day today. I went to the Vernon Poultry Auction for a couple hours this morning, not much on my want list there, a few fancy pheasants, but did not want to spend the money.

The only thing I bought was a young pair of Black-Red Bantam Modern Game Chickens.

I did not take anything to the auction but did sell a few surplus BSW turkeys, I was raising a few for Thanks Giving and Christmas, but we were away for Thanks Giving and will be away for Christmas as well, so did not need as many turkeys.

Friday I did pick up a young pair of Svart honas that were shipped from Newfoundland, so now I have 1 cockeral and 3 pullets, ya!!

I hope everyone had a good day.

good afternoon everyone!
got started on the garlic and got rained on. rude. oh well. when it stops i'll head back out.
glad to hear you got some more birds JimW! YAY. i will definitely pass along to Tania that you have some.....i get to lock down tomorrow i think, maybe tuesday, and will see if the one that is still perking along makes it!
5 rhode island reds and a nice little colourful cockerel out to their new home yesterday. Still have 1 pen up there to clean out, but that won't take long.
I did just manage to get my grant (plus preliminary data!) into the meesley little 5 pages they give me....along with another 3 pages of references. so that's making headway. still a few references to put in. Man, for the amount of time we spend writing these things.....sigh.
hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Gave Stephen his pedicure. I have one of those Amopei things with the extra coarse grinder. Sure takes the stress out for him. Nicely rounded toenails now and his ladies will be happy!

So Jim went to Vernon, I went to McDonalds corners. Silkies, silkies, and more silkies, two roosters for $1. Partridge, blue, black, white, and cheap. Lots of bantams: old English game, rosecombs, and lots of mutts, pigeons, coturnix quail and ducks. I sold a very nice pair of tufted roman geese (the two males I had were fighting too much) and a few extra chickens. Guinea fowl are always crazy prices here.
i left at noon, sale probably over at 5.

Ya I did not make it to McDonalds corners, I would have liked to just to see what was there. I met up with a few people today and sold a few more birds, plus picked up a male snowflake quail, I have a few already but only 1 male. I also picked up a Mottled Houdan cockeral to go with my 2 pullets.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

Jim

Good morning all!
Weaning time around my place - like in the other thread the cows came home. Listened to a good deal of moo-ing yesterday while out hunting. saw the fattest squirrel i have seen in my life! ran up a tree, then jumped to go to the next one and totally missed, and was EXTREMELY ticked off...and had to run up the tree again....
got a lot done this weekend amazingly. planted the garlic, which meant cleaning a patch out of the garden and turning and manuring and planting and filling and top dressing. and cleaned out pens and moved the young birds around to their pens and switched out old roosters for cockerels, and sold a couple of birds and cleaned up the barn, swept everything out....did some hunting (saw another 2 does on saturday, nothing yesterday but the squirrel), picked the seed from the morning glories, tore out all the corn and sunflower stalks....getting ready for winter now. also did some work on a grant that is due next week....that will go to my boss today for editing and critiquing.
guess i should email that to him. there's more i want to put in but i'm very short on space. go figure.

Tonight i need to finish moving birds, got my first pullet eggs from the younger girls the last week, so they're getting ready to lay!!!! whoohoo! i know one of the ameraucanas is laying, and i think one of the barred rocks...it was a light brown one....LOL

hope everyone has a great Monday!

Good morning,
Many fat squirrels around here too, carrying apples in furious pace, wonder if there is a hint of winter coming?
Heading to PEC for a few days of recovery from house guests and laundry ;)
hoping to pick up some pumpkins and more apples and some well aged grapes otherwise to do nothing at all in as much as I am able to do that.
Ivomec to Ameraucanas new and old this morning, since they aren't laying anyway good time to get rid of cooties before winter.
Love to do the Ameraucanas they just line up and wait for their turn. :)
Have a good one!
