Ok so the hatch is still ongoing but so far I have 42 chicks in the brooder!!! Some of the light brown leghorns are black leghorns instead.

2/4 of the sharpied ones have hatched!

Were all soooooo excited! once again Gage claims them all... they are all his chickies until the next batch hatches, then I'll get this batch back. LOL roflmbo he says, "see you later in the garage!" hes sooo adorable!

Congrats Al! They are beautiful. Are those wood shavings you are using and if so, what kind?

Thanks Muffin! ya its wood shaving, just what my local feed mill carries, I asked how they stored it and then i asked for the small stuff. I usually cover it with j cloth for the first week or so. i dont have enough to do that so I just used some to put feed on iv since moved the long strip filled with feed closer to the heat. the brooder is working out great but I also added a flece blanket over the screen doors to keep it warmer throughout.

well I just noticed the "black leghorns" are not leghorns at all. they have rose combs with black beaks and legs. well I waited at least 2 weeks before collecting eggs and more like 3 but who knows. they are prolly EE's hatched from LB leghorn eggs. oh well LOL. Im still collecting them and will hatch more.

anyone want them? there are 6 free of charge, must pick up and no guarantee of what they are. HAHA (Well they have found a home with Ferrier and his broody!)

awwww the chicks are adorable....no wonder Gage has made a claim to them!
FORTY TWO chicks already. How many more are you hatching?

Are those water cups are Gravity fed?
I've never seen them, but must admit they are pretty interesting.
6 cups for 42 chicks...that's impressive.

I'm trying HARD to pull back from hatching any more until I have made pens for the new comers.
Even though Hubby & I have the flu, I still went to the garage & built the nest boxes.
Have about a wk til lock down, so feeling the urgency to step things up a bit.

CONGRATS on 42 healthy chicks & finishing their brooder on time.
(you cut it a bit close didn't you? BUT you are young & can handle the stress - LOL )
