Morning everyone! yep, still morning. phew. sleeping in these days. Sounds absolutely wonderful Ross. Have a great time! Saw my mom and her friend yesterday, had a good dinner in the middle of the afternoon. homegrown is always so much tastier it seems. Today is cleaning up the leftovers, and chicken soup making (stock is done!) and then out to clean out the layer coop while the weather is warm. looks like the change to winter happens in the next few days. Tiny skiff of snow on the ground out there this morning, but the birds will all be let out for the day. easier to clean the coop while they're doing other things anyways! warm water out to the youngsters. AND keeping a close eye on the incubator today, the cornish are hatching, about 12 hours behind...mental note to self, this breed consistently takes a little longer than others....and so far a bunch pipped, a couple out and a couple resting along the way. they'll move out to the barn in a 2-3 days once i get the brooder plates moved from the youngsters out there, and get a heat lamp set up for the youngsters. there are too many to fit under the one brooder plate...but they're growing fast!

i hope everyone had a great christmas, and a great day today!

Went out boxing day shopping with my husband, made it to Costco then had him drop me off at Chapters while he continued shopping, I was done, I'm just not a shopper!
Little colder in the barn again, the chickens aren't liking this up and down weather.

LOl, Chapters, out usual meet up spot kenya!!!

I agree my birds are not liking the up and down. Wind is coming from the east now and it feels not so nice.

Went Boxing Day shopping, got some great deals on items for door prizes for son's buck & doe in April :wee:

have to admit i avoided shopping in almost every way shape and form (except one brief few minutes on the internet)...got my hubby's birthday present! yay! so that's done-and ever wonder why canada post is in trouble?? shipping for it by canada post was going to be 80$ and it was 22$ with fedex...um....which one will i choose....hm.....i would tell you all what i got him, but he's on here too, and i don't want to spoil the surprise :cow:

got the layer coop cleaned out. the manure pile was steaming cooking away today! yay! wind is starting to pick up out there, feels like rain. :rain: so evening chores are done, all the girls got some sunflower seeds tonight. talk about craziness. i start at one end with the pens, and they all know whats coming and are waiting at the doors for me as soon as the first seed hits the floor of the first pen. lol. i need an emoticon of sharks circling LOL. the boys are all so funny, doing that "i've found something for you" call that they do. by the time i'm half way around i can't hear myself think!

6 fuzzybutts in the incubator drying off. not bad out of 8 cornish that made it to lockdown. the other two never pipped, i've already checked, didn't internally pip. brooder is all set up and warming up for them out in the barn. i put a thick horse blanket over the top so it will be nice and toasty warm.

dinner of home made chicken soup is almost ready, might make some dumplings to go with it... :lunch:
have a great night!

Good morning all! I hope you all are healthy and happy and enjoying your holiday season! Our family Xmas party went off without a hitch! First time I've hosted since the kids were small, and I'm pretty proud of myself. We don't really own any decorations, and Richard wanted to go whole-hog, so we dug through our horse barn for anything left behind. There were THREE xmas trees out there, boxes and boxes of decorations, including some wonderful little real-looking birds that have a wire to wrap around branches. I'm just in love with these, and i may have to collect them :) but anyway, we were all set. Everybody had a good time and great food, and I am truly blessed. We did a gift exchange where everybody brought one generic gift and pulled a name out of a jar. I'm keeping this idea should I ever have a large "do" thrust on me again.
I think this has been the first holiday season I've enjoyed since the kids were small, and the first that felt close to a "real" celebration of family and food and blessings since Dad passed in 1986. So, a long time! I think he'd be proud of me :) I'm looking forward to the new year in a way I haven't done in many years. Fall and winter have been a struggle for me for a very long time for many reasons, but now I dare to hope that the pall has lifted and will not draw down again, at least not this season :)

Gotta say we went to a smaller place and the food was exceptional. They have a reputation for healthy food and they deserve it. Lovely to have such fresh salad and fruit that doesn't taste like potatoes! Xmas day there were strawberries on the buffet. Also fresh turkey breast steamed with lemon and ginger. Mango and ginger salad dressing too was different and great. They do 2x daily yoga, fitness walks, spinning etc!
