Galloway.... Must do well on an all grass diet? Unlike more "modern" breeds that need to be penned and fed corn to finish well?

Yes Galloway cattle are wonderful at converting marginal grazing into meat stores, all our cattle get corn November through April though.

Funny that brings back memories. My Aunt & Uncle were labourers on a farm on the Mull of Galloway. (Rhins of Galloway) nearest village Drummore. Used to go there for summers when a child and loved it. Went back there 2 years ago and it's hardly changed, wild windy weather and beautiful. RSPB has protected a huge chunk of it now. Nice to show Vian where I picked up my bad habit (livestock)!

So I let the 2 remaining injured pullets back into the main flock but with the healed wounds protected by saddles. They were desperate to get back out and will be happier. Hope it works out for them!

Well, its Monday morning, and it looks like it will be spring like this week! Complete with the wind and the rain coming tonight/for the next couple days. Mud everywhere.

We got the manure cleaned out of the barnyard where the cows live... and so there will be a nice lower manure pack for the cows to calve on. I can't believe that its coming up soon. Not ready. Never really am. I'm getting too old for calving cows.

Locking down my turkey eggs today, and ONE lone blue chicken egg. Hoping for a mutey, lol. I went to the $1 store last night for sponges to help with humdity for the last day. I'm not uping it until I see pips. I haven't added ANY water at all to the bator, so will see if I have any success without having wet poults. The bator says 29%. The humidity in the room is anywhere from 50% to 55%. Its a cold room... but door open, and warm air from the woodstove drifts upstairs. I will lower the temp one degree also, like WLLady has done. See if anything hatches, lol.

Was sitting out at my 'spot', with my school bus, 200' from my first stop when one of Gary's fellow snowplow drivers messages me on FB messenger. "Are you sitting in the house on FB while Gary is out working hard in the barn?". So of course, I had to tell him that "So.... thats why chores aren't done when I get home.... its GARY on FB.... and he can probably see this", lol. Like I care, but probably made him feel like an idiot, lol.

I hung clothes out to dry yesterday, and now wished I had done a load when I got up this morning, to hang out today. My freaking hydro bill has gone from roughly $380 a month, to up over $500. I'm sure the incubator isn't the reason. Thats the only change in the last month.

We are out of dry wood to burn.... so hydro will be even higher, when the furnace comes on. And, then depending, it could be $500 a month or more to fill the oil tank. Seeing as how its to be mild this week, going to try and keep it off. Its out now, and the temp in here is 55F. Hopefully doesn't get any colder than that.

Ok... coffee time is over, so I'd better go outside and see whats going on. We need another bull this year, so maybe some bull shopping. Seeing as how theres alot of Blonde in the heifers we have kept back, and the ones for breeding this year, I think we will go back to Angus.

Have a great day everyone!!
