WWW I disagree, five straight run is not enough! You will probably get all males. It's really worth the price difference to get the sexes you want, if that's an option that's offered. Unfortunately the dorkings only come in straight run. That's why I ordered 10 barred hollands, in the hopes of getting a couple of hens.

That's probably true when you order breeds where there is a choice of straight run or sexed, but Dorkings are only available as straight run, so I think chances of getting two females in an order of five is somewhat better. In theory, anyway.

are ebdens rare or hard to get? I have a goose but my gander is a Roman! good luck breaking up that marriage! LOL. They are inseparable... im sure you all remember my failed attempt at quarantining him from her and all the crap they put me through! but alas they are a great couple, look great together with his crown and were very successful in hatching there own goslings!

Nooooo! LOL I'm hoping PP has a pullet year like l had here last year. Those 2 varieties can only be ordered SR, and if they all turn out male, I will be very grumpy!

Al, Embdens are the goose most commonly used for commercial meat production, so they shouldn't be hard to get, but the 3 hatcheries that serve the radius I can travel (Frey's, Millpond and Bonnie's) don't seem to be offering them anymore!

I plan on buying from Performance this year, even though it's a bit of a hike for me. I had a little personal dance party when I saw that their ordering will be open soon.

Looking at Chanteclers and Barnevelders for sure...I wish they had Speckled Sussex!

If she's made the jump from PSO to PTO, Green River Chick has very nice Speckled Sussex. I bought some pullets from her last fall and can vouch for her as a conscientious breeder.

Lynners, they DO have Speckled Sussex! Go to Order, Heavy (under standard chickens), Sussex are just below Orpingtons, and if you click on '"lease select variety", speckled is listed. But yes, DL is correct, GRC has them (or used to) and several other members do as well.

I ordered speckled Sussex pullets from them last week....just still trying to get through on the phone with my credit card. I sent an email saying I wasn't skipping out on the order and got a reply saying " it's been a bit of a busy week" wonder why? Hahaha

good luck with the Spitzhaubens. I ordered 6 straight run back in 09 from PP and got 5 pullets and 1 cockerel. I will be waiting to see pictures of how close to the standard they grow up to be.
