TomK, best get those extra eggs frozen while they are still coming - I've used @Killerbunny's method since she wrote about it last year, and am currently using up some of my stockpile because I have two in the throes of a hard moult, and only three laying every other day because they aren't getting enough daylight hours atm. I do supplement light, but only enough to allow me to get morning and evening stuff done in the coop and run.

Moult is going on here too, nobody is moulting hard except the turkey girls, no bald birds, but just looking a little rough around the edges. Even so, egg laying has dropped off very dramatically, I got 6 yesterday and thought I'd won the lottery lol. I've also got more than the usual number of birds with chicks, or broody for this time of year.

Just to close this one out. Got the light on the timer, adding about 3 hrs a day. Production has ramped up. I think all the pullets are laying, and the older girls too. Getting over a dozen a day again. So probably a little molt combined with the day length. Original post was about Sept 21, equinox. So probably need to start extra light about then.

Interestingly I'm getting several squattie hens! I think this must correspond to the spring timing too.

I have 2 broodies right now...not the ideal time really. Thinking about dividing up some chicks from the hoard in the basement just to break them!! I dont get many broodies and now 2 in the same week.
I have 14 hours light...gettong anwhere between 9 and 5 eggs from 30 right now lol. I expect it though and its okay.

I am using a sixty watt old style bulb. Timer on from 6 to 9 in eve right now, will make it earlier as we lose daylight. Seems to work for me anyway.
