The ameraucana (or ee) should have muffs and a beard and a pea comb....polish dont have muffs so i would say whomever has muffs is the amer/ee.

I raise Polish, sorry to tell you neither are polish.
Both have muffs so I would say both are some kind of ameraucana cross, it's too bad the blue looks like a male that one is going to be spectacular.

WWW, do the last few pictures I posted show its comb enough to determine whether it starts too low? Are cavernous nares an indication of male?
They both appear to have some sort of cheek muffs, but the little crested one's are more pronounced.
Kenya, thanks for confirming my suspicions about the blue. I know very little about Polish, other than they are supposed to have some sort of poofy headdress, and the blue doesn't. I agree, I think it is going to be a looker. Seems like they're both still mystery chicks and it will be interesting to see how they look in a few more weeks.
Thanks, goatgal - I hope they are both girls too.

No, I can't see worth beans even with the pictures blown up, LOL I think my eyes are getting old :/ Cavernous nares are an indication that he's part crested breed--Polish, Houdan, Spitzhauben, Crevecoeur etc. all have vaulted upper beaks and huge nostrils, and generally 'V' combs. The yellow legs on the EE are a mystery--neither Polish nor Ameraucana have yellow skin (slate is dark blue(black) over white skin, willow is dark blue(black) over yellow skin)--young Polish can have legs that look yellow or greenish, but it shouldn't stick around. Both breeds should have slate legs. AN ameraucana mix would have muffs (or not), but a Polish mix shouldn't have muffs at all unless it's mixed with Ameraucana. The head crest on the frizzle is fine in its size--it WILL get bigger as he gets older. As to sex guessing, the very best I can do is a gut feeling lol, blue-laced is a boy, frizzle is a girl. But, it's early yet, fingers crossed for two girls!! Please post updates as they get older, or if, you know, you happen to sneak them out from under foster mom after dark and have a look at their combs :DJaye wrote:QR_BBPOST WWW, do the last few pictures I posted show its comb enough to determine whether it starts too low? Here are some updated pics (taken yesterday evening) of the littles at 4 weeks old. Mama had them up on the roost already last night! She didn't bring the last chicks she raised up to the roost until they were about 7 weeks old. I wonder why she decided it was time with these two?
I am still holding out hope that the little blue chick is female, but I've noticed that its comb has pinked up a bit in the last few days. :-(

I know, right?! I think she's really cute too. She's got that sweet ditsy Polish personality going on already too. I would love to keep them both, but if the blue is a boy, we can't keep him where we live at the moment. Hopefully when we move, it will be to a place where we can keep roosters.
