Storm prep

Post by Rhonda » Wed Feb 24, 2016 1:07 pm

Snowing lightly now. Forecast is for snow changing to freezing rain this afternoon, continuing all night. Even the weather man is forecasting power outages. :gaah:

So my storm prep is on. Got the chilli on cooking...upped it to a double batch for easy to heat on the wood or camp stove leftovers. Camp stove pots dug out of the basement. Flash lights and candles found. Birds fed and watered, extra waterers in the house to carry out. Extra water jugs for us filled. Run the dishwasher and caught up the laundry ( HATE doing that during peak times!!!!) Wild bird feeders filled up with a couple of days worth of seed and suet so I don't have to slide down the front steps to fill them. Porch filled with fire wood. Hubby bringing home gas for the generator. Parents called to make sure my Mom's oxygen back up tank is full...they actually stocked up on groceries yesterday!! Daughter in college called and warned to dig out her flashlight and charge up her phone. Sure hope Kingston just gets rain and they don't cancel her mid terms that are scheduled for her tomorrow. She has been working hard and if they don't fit them in this week it will be after reading break and she will have to study again.

What am I missing??? :?:

Sounds like you are all set. I'm watching the rain freeze and build up on the trees- ugh. Hope it turns to rain soon.

Sounds to me like you're missing a coffee and a chapter or two after all that prep!

Eldest daughter just called. it is her first year in her own apartment in Ottawa. She had an interesting question. How does she storm prep when you live in an apartment instead of in the country. I had to think. her instinct was also to throw on a pot of chili. But I said you have no way to reheat it. You need canned stuff that you don't need to heat up. Got some canned tuna, salmon a loaf of bread? Also wasn't sure if she will get water on the top floor of her building.
