Leg Lifts

Sandy add a bit of dog shampoo to it, to clean out any greasy embedded dirt and rinse very well.
Feathered feet are not meant for bad weather- I'd have a large flock of Brahmas and Langshans , myself, if they had featherless feet! Love those breeds especially Brahmas. I've banished feathered feet from my flock, winter causes me enough problems without them.
Check for any ingrown feather stubs while you are looking and check higher up, feel the hock for any warmth or swelling too.

My dog shampoo is an organic baby shampoo. Will this do? It should be good. It's what I wash the silkies with anyways when I bathe them

I just use a mild dish soap if the feathers are soiled or have stuff clumped ; otherwise just warm water and Epsom salts loosens up anything that needs to come off. I'm sure your dog shampoo will be fine too. Just make sure that her feathers and legs are thoroughly dried with your hairdryer on warm setting before putting her back out: moisture and cold = a higher risk of frostbite.
Are the feathers on her legs clumped with stuff? If not, since it's pretty cold out (it is here, anyway), why not just bring her inside to warm up a bit and do an inspection without washing her legs?

Nope, she's clear of clumps. I keep on top of that stuff for them. Once it starts it just gets bigger and bigger. I can bring her in and warm her, but I'm sure an Epson salt soak would do her good anyways. I just wish I knew what the heck I was looking for.

I'll never forget the rescue Silkie. I couldn't even see her feet from clumps of poop. Terrible. Took a week of soaking her daily to get it all off. I just won't let that happen to my guys. Any of them. It's why I keep the flock numbers low so I don't get overhwlemed.

If her feet and feathers are clump-free, no cuts or sores, no bumble foot, etc., then it's probably cold feet. It's good for peace of mind to check just to make sure there's nothing else going on anyway. :-)

Well. I can't see any cuts, swelling and I even had Lou double check. i hooe it was cold feet. She's in the pen so she isn't free ranging with the big girls yesterday and today.

I have the rooster blocked off so she doesn't pluck every last feather out of him. I got the stop peck red goo but I'm giving him a break from her anyways. Although he seems to be sexually frustrated because I got a Silkie version of attacked twice this morning. So I think I'll give him a few girls friends today. Pimp.

I'm going to bring her in tonight and check her again. Just to make sure. Keep a close eye on her.
