Yea they are very cute and smart, more so than a cat. They are omnivorous and wil eat eggs, bugs etc but are opportunistic much like squirrels taking baby birds.

I put two seeds and separated at 1 week. Put the others in store tomato soil and they all look awful and are so small? They might be dead. Not enough water? I watered two or three times a week.

What's wrong is the peat pots! Those things are NASTY because they dry out so fast, and because they restrict the plants when they are planted in them (even if we remove the bottoms before planting).
I once did an experiment, as I had a lot of peat pots that I wanted to use up. Tomato seedlings grown in Yoghurt containers did way better, so the peat pots got tossed :).

That makes sense. I thought maybe it was the soil for tomatoes I bought. Maybe not suitable for baby plants... I will try and put them in yogurt containers "for science" :-)

I've used both potting mix with no nutrients as well as regular potting mix with slow-release fertilizer. Both worked fine for seedlings. I usually use Promix HP when they are tiny, then fertilize with fish emulsion when the first real leaves appear. For potting up, I use Promix for Herbs and Veggies.
