A friend went to Hawaii and said there were chickens running everywhere.

So they have feral chickens, I remember reading about free ranging chickens and the author wrote that chickens cannot survive without food...

Before HPAI, I have seen completely free range (there will be some losses due to predators) to completely enclosed runs...
Considering HPAI, do most poultry keepers (hobby) have their poultry completely enclosed now?
Maybe a chicken tractor movable coop is a good idea now?

Re: Good Morning 2025
Mine run around the property but I do provide food for them. There is sheep & goat fence round 2.5 acres. I did have one loss due to a fox a while ago.lolotsung wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 1:43 pmBefore HPAI, I have seen completely free range (there will be some losses due to predators) to completely enclosed runs...

I don't believe enclosing the birds in runs will prevent HPAI. The majority of outbreaks are in barns and that doesn't seem to be working out for them! It is carried in wild birds and on fomites carried by rats and mice. Life is chancy in general and they seem happy.

Has anyone tried this coop? It is on sale for $400 at Peavey. Also there is a bigger drum shaped one.
I am thinking the door will get stuck with dirt. There is no insulation.
