Thinking of Winter Bug Nutrition
Thinking of Winter Bug Nutrition
My local feed store has 3 lb bags of mixed grains with mealworms and black soldier fly larvae from Croque En Bec in Quebec, so I decided to try it. The birds loved it, of course.
Then I got notification from Chubby that they have stock back in, plus they advertise that the BSF are grown in Canada.
The cost of dried mealworm larvae and BSF larvae seems to be consistent. With Croque En Bec having only 1/2 the contents with the larvae, I'm going back with Chubby this year.
After all, there is no more Snackyard, which was also Canadian.

Too late until next year but I did hear of someone putting buckets of water under the windows the June bugs hit. Then they freeze them for winter treats.

Hmm. Too late for June bugs, but does anyone know if chickens like Japanese beetles?

Jaye, chickens DO like Japanese Beetles :). I collect them in a bowl of water (without any added soap). I then race them down to the coop where they go bobbing for beetles :).
