Good Morning!

Post by Ontario Chick » Tue Feb 16, 2016 10:58 am

Good morning, snow coming down fast and steady, DH snow-blowed path in to the barn for me, by the time I went couldn't see his tracks.
He went by one more time when I was inside the barn, by the time I opened all the windows, fluffed up the bedding, served breakfast, hand fed the "boys" and was leaving the barn, couldn't see his tracks at all.
Our neighbor who does our driveway just came by and created our own personal whiteout. ;) I guess he is planning to plow in installments today.
There is about 6" of snow on the quonset which I cleaned yesterday, so I guess that's what we got so far.
Good day to stay in if you can.

If you can. Famous last words, lol.

Hubby went salting/plowing at 5am. A real light fine stuff coming down. Heavier since. The bus ride was SLOW. I was surprized to see the time, when I just got in, from the barn chores. I fed the cows 3 buckets of silage, then shovelled out the FAT feeder, because lord only knows, why someone can't just feed what the youngsters can clean up..... gave that to the cows.... then filled the feed cart for tonight, inside for the fats. They had enough on the floor from last night, so I swept that in, with a 5 gallon pail of corn sprinkled on.

Then after pushing that inside, I switched tractor buckets, put on the spear, got a pail of oats... took the horses (who live in the hay shed area) around to the other side of the silage pit, and put up the electric wire. I divided the field in half last year, so when stuff is being done IN the hay shed.... the horses aren't running out the gate.

I brought 3 bales (one a second cut for the fats... GAry can skid steer that inside whenever), and got a nice second cut for the cows. Treat day. Only because the first cut that is left, is 4 high. And, right against the square left for the horses to get in and out of the weather.... and I didn't want to chance tipping one to that side... or have one come down the loader arms, onto me. Not much first cut left.

So the bull wouldn't get me, I positioned the haybale above the feeder, and climbed up and up the loader arms, and sat on the bale to cut the strings. When I was nearly done, I felt a weird sensation, and just in time, realized I had speared too high on the bale... and the outside layer was sloughing off. Good thing at that time, my feet were ON the bale spear attachment so I could get off quickly. Whew! Glad that didn't happen when my whole body was on it, cutting the furthest strings.

I need some carbs... so figured as how its nearly lunch, I would have some left over spaghetti... and then I will go out and bed everyone. I need feed today too. Perhaps after bus today. Or in the morning. I am all out, but most of the feeders have feed still for the birds!

Nice out!! Mild!! Good thing, because my gloves were soaking wet, and my hands were getting to the point where they were being useless.

With that kind of workload, I guess you can eat whatever you want for whichever meal, ;)

Geez, feel better soon!! I'm not so bad here today. Stuffy nose... ache a bit. But I figure its from all the work I did, lol. AND just went and unloaded 10 bags of layer pellets. I will have to fill feeders when I get home from the bus.... and feed the silage cart. At least the water pails for ALL the turkey/layers/guinea's/rooster condo... and chicken special treatment birds aren't frozen today!! That saves a TON of work.

Well... time to put the kettle on (to take a tea on the bus), and put wood in the stove.... and go check Dave's house for wood.... do my run, and home to chore.... then SIT! There is a little spaghetti left.. Gary can have that... I will have cereal. I am NOT cooking tonight, lol.

Well the crazy cold weather is over, but now snow. Winter is finally here (not pleased). Still snowing heavily here. When I was out around noon we already have about 12" of fresh snow today.

SO hubby went out with the snow blower at noon for a second go. Replaced the belts mid November to get it ready to go. One of the brand new belts just broke! Language was not good.

WOW I dont think we've had a foot in total this year! theres about half an inch right now. think im guna hook up one of the sleds behind the lawn tractor n pull the kids around for some afternoon fun! it just occurred to me that we havent been sleeding yet this year! I might have to jumpstart the hydrostatic lawnmower that the kids can drive so I can have a ride too!

Well, the eyes open now, it looks good except they don't line up (yet?).
Imagine this bit of conversation "so if the eyes don't line up by next week, we have an opthamologist who's local who can operate and fix it." The piece missing there was "for a price." Yeah what $4000?

If the dog is healthy, and the eyelid closes (which it does) than its "good enough" for me.

Now we can be in different rooms and she can keep an eye on us both. (Insert your eye joke here)
You either laugh, or you cry, so we laugh.
