https://youtu.be/rTPBcrmST58 I'm not sure where to put this but it was interesting that the rooster was so attached to the owner and vice versa!

I've seen this before and I still watched the whole thing again. My little house rooster was exactly the same way with us. We were his flock.

What better way to blow off the -34C temp this morning than firing up my seed starter.
Lol. You thought I was gonna say incubator!
Got my geranium seeds going this morning. I started from seed for the first time last year but delivery delays meant that they didn't flower until mid July. So I'm getting a head start this year.
My 83 year old mom is the flower queen. She won community awards for her gardens every year until the year she sold her house (at 81) and she did every bit of it herself. She now has a small veranda at her apartment that she fills with flowers and bird feeders/waterers. She has been asking me a lot of questions about starting seeds so I bought her a small grow light with 3 adjustable arms and a self watering seed starter. She can get her geraniums started now and whatever else she wants me to order later. Gives her something to fuss over. Just proves you can still do something for the first time in your 80's.
Come on spring.

Deep freeze today again, so no January thaw for us I guess.
@Happy post reminded me, our February Hort. soc. speaker (zoom) is a Master Gardener, who started with a small garden, got hooked and got a larger garden, You know the story if you are old enough, after 40 years she is back to small garden on a patio where she transitioned to "vertical gardening"
I guess if you are a true gardener and you live long enough you will all end up in that situation. I am looking forward to watching that one. :)

i tried starting trees from seeds last year (just a few-if you remember the plane tree saga). Well, i have 2 oak, 145 catalpa, about 100 northern white cedar tree seeds all stratified and just starting to sprout! we are going to transition some of our unproductive farm land into forest....so we are using local native trees. I also want to plant a row of cedars to shelter our beehives. We saved all our juice plastic bottles and they give a nice taller "pot" for the roots to develop. I know the squirrels are better at planting walnuts than i am, so i will just dig those up and replant them in the spring LOL.

Looks like we have the frozen waterers figured out-at least we found 4 buckets that don't seem to freeze solid at -25C. Thankfully i think the worst of the cold is over for this week.....feb is always pretty cold, but then it's getting into spring in just 4 weeks from now! YAY!

i think it's time for another walk while the weather is nice!

We are supposed to get a big rain dump Tues Wed. I dont need that. Ice. Muck. It could just stay say -2 or something and I would be pleased. One bloomin egg today. Goats all looking fat with child. They are a fecund lot. Mid March the first one is due. Tearing down sparrow nests in the coop and barn already. Goat that had his horns amputated three weeks ago today is looking like he is healing ok.

So......it RAINED pretty much all night. soupy mess. And now it's snowing like crazy. So it's snowing, nice and white and a soupy mess underneath it! I think i'll go and scoop the soupy mess off the walkway before it freezes solid.....
Of course the horse is soaking wet, with a temperature drop coming on. awesome. Extra oats and pellets and hay and some corn tonight for sure to keep her warm. Looks like the wind is picking up now too. Guess this is february. I'm with wiarton willie.....no shadow today! I'm all for an earlier spring (in 6 weeks) instead of another month and a half of winter.....um.....hm.....well. whatever. it sounds shorter/sooner to say 6 weeks i think. haha
Ducks are still laying. Turkey decided to take a break again (good). All my young pullets from last years hatch are laying now, have a pile of little pullet eggs showing up every day or so. it's super nice!
Someone muttered something about taking down the christmas lights on the tree outside. I think maybe we'll do that later. it's too snowy out right now, and starting to get windy. it'll wait.
