Spooked chickens

Post by labradors » Tue Sep 14, 2021 9:35 am

Yesterday we thoroughly cleaned the coop and put new shavings down. The chickens were in their tractor when it happened. When they were put back in, they stopped at the top of the ladder, aghast at the changes, before going in for a snack. We left them, digging around in some bark chips in the outdoor run. After supper we went for a walk, and I felt I had to return because our chickens were making SO much noise, but they just stared at me and refused to be put inside early.

This morning, it turns out that they slept in the outside covered run instead of on their perch in the coop as their poop board was perfectly clean. Most strange!

Our younger Tom absolutely refused to coop one night and was acting oddly. When we checked we found a garter snake curled up in the middle of the waterer stand. I think you ruined their comfy coop for them LOL1

Ha ha Killerbunny! I think we ruined their comfy coop too! They probably liked all the cobwebs and the poop-smeared walls just fine!

Interesting about your young Tom and the garter snake though! I did wonder if there was something in the coop that had spooked them, and I had a good look, but found nothing.......

If they could talk would they say "What's that awful smell? Did the humans clean the coop again?"
