Pine bedding

Post by labradors » Mon Jun 22, 2020 10:01 am

Hubby bought a different brand of bedding a while back and it's fine for bedding but consists of nothing but tiny bits that stick to the eggs in the nesting boxes. We were in TSC the other day, so I picked up a bag of the old stuff. (The guy had to go into the back, and even asked if I wanted the thick stuff). It was the usual white bag with the green pine tree on the front, so I was happy.

Just lugged it out to the coop, sliced it open and..... More horrid skinny stuff!!!! Sigh...….

Oh no, I had it happen couple of times too, horrid stuff swept from a floor of some woodworking shop.
I have had some luck asking for large livestock wood shavings, but no guarantee there either, and short of opening the bag right then and there, no way to find out.

Are you near Willows in Delta? The corase bedding we get from there is OK. They have both fine and coarse.

Up no. We were actually in YOUR TSC in B'ville! (We like it better than the K'ston one). Never mind, the fish and chips at Manoll's more than made up for it :).

@labradors Try Sydenham feed store. Bill gets great pine shavings nice and course. If you are looking for something specific and they don't have, they'll get it for you. Bill and Kari are awesome. Between them and Lois's in Harrowsmith i get everything I need in this area!

I agree about Bill a Carrie in Sydenham. They are the best!
I use their pine shavings only for the nest nest boxes, though. I am on year 6 of using ground walnut shell for the coop.
