Good Morning!
Don't feel too bad about that, if it's a virus antibiotics generally won't help. They just stop secondary infections.clawton wrote:QR_BBPOST Bad day on the acreage yesterday
Lost 3 roosters to infectious respiratory problem from this damn weather
I feel bad about it cause I hesitated on the antibiotics and didn't start them till this past Saturday and should have started them a day or two earlier
I hate winters like this !!
But on a positive note all 40 of the other birds are doing great and no major issues

Good Morning!
awwww. when we got tango neutered he kept chewing out his stitches so they put a cone on him. he literally put his head down so the cone was resting on the floor (with the open part against the floor) and howled.....it was funny for about 20 minutes, then we took the cone off and polysporin'd the stitches and put bitter apple all around them. he didn't chew any more out. but man was he miserable in a cone!
well, another tea, and i won a "play again". lol.
yeah, antibiotics do nothing for viruses. and of all the critters on the planet chickens are super sensitive to the viruses. i have an 8 year old rooster, he's a sweetie, and he's really slowed down the last 4 weeks. still eating and drinking well, but i suspect this upcoming -20 is going to do him in....his brothers all pass away of natural causes about 2 years ago, so he's done really well....i just hope that the sun is out during the cold so the barn will be half decently warm inside for him. he serves absolutely no practical purpose whatsoever right now-infertile..but he is nice. we shall see how he does.
got my mail at work today and tucked into the mail was a nice little note saying "update your address with everyone because our address has changed".
hm.....nice of them to tell me exactly WHAT the address has changed to...i've only worked here for 15 years....um.....when did this happen? LOL. so i guess i should figure that out this afternoon.
AND my last batch of cornish actually hatched more than 1 chick! whoohoo! so far i have 2....LOL. okay, so i only set 5....this time i didn't up the humidity in the incubator. the other 3 that haven't hatched were all dark inside, but i didn't hear anything from them this morning. sigh. these 2 (dude and dudette i think) will be going into the basement pen and the 3 from the barn are coming in to the basement pen for the duration of the -10/-20 temps....then back outside when they're a bit older. my heat lamps and brooder plates aren't so great at -20.
hope everyone is having a good day!

Good Morning!
There was this clever older lady who went to tim hortons every Sunday morning with her daughter. She would roll up her rim and when it said "please play again she would take Her cup to the counter and tell the girls that the cup said she gets to play again. They tries to explain it to her nicely but she would play senile. They always let her play until she won something. She loved to see just how far she could push things lol.

Good Morning!
Snowing here, it's beginning to 'almost' look like winter, time to put boots on and head out, just hanging around, waiting for Autumn to post a picture of her "designer" eggs.
Have a safe one!

Good Morning!
got all my breeder reds banded and seperated into breeding groups. 3 seperate groups and I also treated them all with ivermectin since I didn't get to doing that before we moved. fun to do by myself but not impossible... im not scared of chicken
HAHAHA kneeled down on my knees and held them with my legs... fun fun but goter done! records are all updated... use a pencil for the first draft LOL.
reds are finally starting to lay... 2-3 eggs a day from 8 hens... ohhh they are sooooo delicious!
I also had to drain the pond before it froze... it works well... a little to well HAHAHA it had burst the banks by quite a few feet when we got all that rain a week or so ago. so i through a pump in it and drained it down more than a foot into the field. so once spring comes im guna have to install the overflow immediately!
have a great day all!!!
