It's official. Chickens were around in the time of the dinosaurs LOL
Well, incubator is set to hatch friday night into saturday morning. fingers crossed. so far the power amazingly has not gone out. fingers crossed. it, however, keeps snowing off and on outside! in fact, it's snowing right now. AGAIN. argh
Our puppy is finally going again..mostly normally, put still on the odd pain drug. I went over her with a fine toothed comb the other day. I really really want to know what she did to herself. She has 3 torn toenails along with bleeding under all three in the nail beds one on each of three feet, and another 5 claws split/cracked. The swelling is down quite a bit in her left hind, but the cartilage and tendon in her hock are still swelled up so i rigged up a splint/wrap from a wrist brace for her to wear while walking outside. she's leashed all the time outside because she wants to run so bad and then she's in horrible pain. sigh. She has bruises on her chest-breastbone and rubbed all the hair off in a spot about the size of my hand-road rashed, and road rashed in her right "armpit" too. looks like she fell hard on something and slid. she's finally not tripping herself walking through the door over the door jamb, or into her crate. If anything makes a snap sound (like flipping the lightswitch too hard, or standing on a stick and breaking it) since immediately drops to the ground and cowers. I really wonder if she had something give way under her while playing with the dog across the street - they apparently did go down into the ravine. The rash is gone and better and the fur is starting to grow in again, but i think she's going to have scars from it! argh! she's young so hopefully she'll heal up okay. we're keeping her quiet this week and if she's still needing pain drugs next week I'll get her into the vet for xrays. Nothing seems broken, and when she's happy and not worried about something she's doing just fine. But something has her skittish beyond belief.....which is slowly getting better with a consistent safe quiet atmosphere at home right now. go figure. just glad there's my old dog coming back! So now, my working hypothesis is a jaunt into the ravine, something broke and she fell into the rocks in the bottom, and a wasp nest, got stung, came out of the ravine in short order (it's a steep ravine there with rock in it), damaged her claws and hock in the rush and then bolted for home once the pain from the stings got her. seems plausible. HAHA. I don't think we'll ever know. but it was nice to have some canine company doing the chores yesterday again for the first time in a week!
next week will be turkeys hatching and then after that hopefully some ducks. lots of the babies this weekend are for bayvistafarm-all to be delivered with good physical distancing....guess i should get the brooders warming up! they'll need the heat plates for sure down in the basement. Too cold yet for the great outdoors, although i have one coop completely empty and clean now for growing them out, just needs shavings and birds big enough to not eat the shavings LOL.
Itching to get into the greenhouse when the snow quits. everything is actually doing well out there with the new set up and the heater. I might bring some peat pellets in and plant a pile of stuff in the house to move out in a week or so after it sprouts. looks like the weather might behave starting this weekend.
And, next week is the last week for teaching for me. I'm looking forward to having more time again.....phew. it's been a hectic few months, especially with the move to online!

Re: Good Morning!
I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy. Something very serious happened to her by the sound of it, in addition to the anaphylactic shock. Could she have been run over, or could someone have hurt her?
I do remember when our dog went through A. Shock that she acted very afraid of everything, hiding behind the couch and vomiting. It happened years ago, but I seem to remember that the behavior went away after a day or two.

Overcast and light snow flurries. Goats staked out in the young green grass chowing down, two babies fossicking and romping about . The goats dont mind a little snow, but about three raindrops and they are sure they are going to die. Been not terrible, but cool and windy enough that I havent even played in the garden for a week or so. Made cheese with the walking onions chopped up in them. I do like those walking onions, green in the fall when they get covered by snow, green and edible when the snow melts, and a pretty good strong onion flavour.

Re: Good Morning!
Nice morning so we did the annual ILT booster, ivermec and dusting on the birds. Went remarkably well nobody maimed and the birds are all in good shape after the winter even if Frank did scream like a little girl.
