Its raining already. Well, I thought it would have rained before now, while I was out driving.
As soon as Gary is done chores, we are heading to the bank to open an RRSP. Forgot all about doing this, ugh. Thank goodness the lawyer sent me an email on Friday to have this addressed. So a quick call to the accountant, and got some figures. He wanted MORE put in... but then that will leave NO money at all to live on, OR pay the income tax we need to. As it is.. we may have to borrow money for that. GAWD, hate this.
This came about, from selling the REST of held over storage corn/beans/wheat from 2018 in 2019 and NO expenses, because Gary's son is 'farming'. Meanwhile, we are holding the farm... paying insurance/FCC/taxes...and no income. Well... farming this way, it catches up to you in the end. And, I'm not a 'smart' whiz with money by any means.
Hopefully soon this farm gets transferred over, and we can be rid of huge bills. Time someone else pays for them.
My geraniums are outgrowing their little cell bedrooms. I will need to put them into Timmies cups soon... and only have a very limited space under the grow light. I have only 2 trays in there, and that takes up the whole top row! I still have to seed tomatoes and peppers sometime. I did find a window box in the garage, and its full of soil and in here on the bottom. It doesn't need lights.... I have cute little lettuce plants sowed in there. They are only the length of a mans hand... more or less a one person salad, lol. One red and one green. They could probably do well in a window, or even outside on the south facing porch on nice days.
So..... last Friday, I had off because of the teachers strike, and the Friday before. Also, 2 days before those days. And this Friday is a P.A. day. I've lost over $40 for the strike days. But tonight doubling up half another guy's run, so get an extra $13 on top of my reg. route pay, lol. Doing it every day, it adds up.
Yesterday the guys (Son Dave, and Gary) took the semi-frozen sap out of the driveshed to thaw.. lit a fire, and proceeded to boil it down. Long story short... both of them, (Dave in and out of the woodshop.. RIGHT BESIDE THE SAP SHED), and Gary dicking around cutting wood for the stove IN the woodshop... and me frigging around with the daughter in laws dog (then took off with it on a run with the quad)... burned the complete and utter hell out of the syrup. I could tell upon returning from the quad ride (took all of 4 minutes) from the smell, that it wasn't good. I yelled for Gary... Dave told me to grab the damn sides of the pan (no gloves... hands inside snowsuit), I just about dropped it before Gary showed up to help. No matter. The pressure washer (very strong one), wouldn't even take it off. We will need to boil it with something to clean stainless steel. Maybe baking soda/vinegar? Anyone have any suggestions???
Every single time we do sap. At least once. Ugh. Don't know why we bother to do it really.
Well better go sweep up the broken beer bottle that was in a sort of river a few weeks ago, on my basement floor. With the mild weather, and the melt... my basement will be running again. And head to the bank. They must be nearly open now.
