What size hardware cloth is considered weasel proof?

Have a cool plan for a coop? Or new roost designs? Or you simply want to show off your new building.

What size hardware cloth is considered weasel proof?

Post by Nick » Mon Feb 10, 2020 7:58 pm

What does everyone think? 3/4” (which is hard to find) or could you get away with 1”?

I’ve got quite a large run to do and often I get home after dark so it has to be critter proof (including weasels).

What do you all think?

Nick...i get 1/2 " at my local feed store...i like it the best for keeping out just about everything...the 1" stuff, altho durable, is a doorway for a weasel..avoid that size.. :run:

I'm pretty sure I read this on this site..."if a hot dog fits through it then so will a weasel"
That visual has always stuck with me.

I use 1/2 " and try to ensure there isn't a very large gap anywhere. Good luck.

And remember to put a barrier below ground level all the way around the outside enclosure.

Half inch it is! Thanks folks. I was able to get some galvanized strips of steel 2’ wide 8 feet long. I’m going to use them along the bottom buried halfway in the ground.
