Look at this dog absolutely beautiful dog, perfect representative of the breed. Beware a lot of people are using the same picture to represent their dog.

people with pets have longer lives. they exercise more, petting a dog/cat lowers your heart rate, and given the home invasions we hear about, I would never be without a dog. in my lifetime, we are the only house on our street that has never been broken into. we always have a "serious" looking dog - doberman or rottie mix, future will likely be a German Shepherd.

Completely agree with you Bert, you want to come over and convince DH ?
Funny going thru the dogs I have known, I have grown up with German Shepards.
Our first dog was a Golden Retriever, when our oldest son was 3 years old.
Next was a rescue Samoyed, after him Great Dane, followed by a rescue Rottie, followed by a rescue Akita, followed by a rescue Lab mix.

We have fostered Jack Russell terrier (the only dog that actually bit me, my mistake, I said "you can't sit on MY blanket, and she said YES I can) ;)
couple Rothweilers, some suspect hounds ;) and couple of Huskies.
I have house sat with Rotties, Border collie, couple of Berneese and some "doodly" little things.

So now that we have a 4 year old grandson, it would seem that we may be finishing the circle of life by going back to the Golden retriever.
Just waiting for the right moment to brake it to DH ;)

Interesting, Wolfhound was also on my list, when we were considering an XL breed.
I thought we did very well with out Dane, he reached a bit past 10 years of age which I felt was pretty respectable for a 180Lb animal.

That is a good age for a Dane. I wonder if inbreeding has worsened life expectancy?
I also was raised with GS dogs, great and very smart!

Well all this talk about dogs. This is a chicken site after all. I researched a little bit of Garry Larson's work in this area, and thought I should post this one. Shows how dogs and chickens can interact.

There's a Great Dane wolfhound cross on Kijiji Regina. Wonder what that would be like?
