One more time

Post by Shnookie » Sat Jul 20, 2019 10:59 pm

I did one more hatch with some of my own eggs. For a lot of reasons I ended up with only 1 chick - a male of course. I have put him up for sale but had no interest. He's a from a Splash Ameraucana bred to a darker colored EO hen. He came from a 66 g egg so he's a good size already. I can see blue and gold in his feathers, and maybe some red. Today I noticed he has a muff.

The rooster is related to the Splash Ameraucana rooster that I had with quite a bit of brown in his wings. The father of this chick has a bit of light yellow in the wings.

How do you know it's a male already, just out of curiosity?

He is a non-barred to barred cross. Male chicks have a small white dot, or in his case a couple of white feathers, on the top of their heads when they are small. If you look closely at the picture you can see them.
