ewww rats. the dead ones are good. LOL. i've shot a few, and the cats (yes, my cats) have brought me a few. i throw the carcasses in the driveway down by the road and they're gone in a matter of minutes with the hawks and kestrels....
yep, 22 all the way.
i don't mind putting an animal down, or hunting for food, or processing chickens for my family. but i also worked in slaughterhouses and enjoy hunting, so..i don't LIKE killing, but it is a necessary part of the life cycle for me.
i'm with bvf on bugs. except bees. the rest of them can go and live elsewhere, especially ticks! gah!

well, almost the weekend for me. tomorrow the farrier is coming to trim the horses. i have some vacation days saved up, so. sleep in day, and get some things done around the farm for the day. spend some time with the dogs, we are dog sitting right now, she's really cute, and OLD and arthritic, and goes about the same speed as me and my old arthritic lab. so the three of us hang out while the other crazy dog runs circles....
locking down tonight on the next set of cornish. only 5 made it to lock down, 2 of those i'm not sure of, we had 2 power outages during this one.....sigh. standard dark cornish are BAD LUCK. lol. it's the only conclusion i can come to! i can't wait to finally have enough that i can try eating one and see if they are as good as they are rumoured to be. i'm hoping the 2 chicks i have managed to successfully hatch this winter are girls....the older one seems to have a lot of brown on it, so fingers crossed. the other one is still all covered in down having just hatched a couple weeks ago. i set turkey eggs last weekend, and almost have a full batch collected again. turkeys are laying like machines, 1 egg per girl per day! in february. wow.

hope everyone has a great day....getting to see my sister this afternoon and her kids, for the first time in MONTHS...looking forward to that. have a great day folks!

The rat in the cage. I never set out to do the vermin any harm when I catch them in the live trap. But, I have tried to teach several of them to swim. Put cage and all in the water trough or rain barrel. Not sure if they are slow learners or what, but none of them ever seemed to catch on.

This actually works really well with skunks in a trap small enough their tail is down and they cant shoot.

Crows are using the driveway as a promenade birds singing and woodpecker calling, can spring be far behind?

Hibernia Stables and Horseshoeing-Claire Trickey. She's been trimming for me for about 5 years now, from Ridgetown.
