We had to have 18 ash trees all cut down this year, they were huge and beautiful. Such a shame but all dead or dying, we have replaced with red oak, ginko, blue spruce, linden and locus tree.
Anyone out there want to come and help me cut down a couple of my ash trees

Way too big of a job for me to even try and do

We paid someone to do it, it was just too dangerous, they were between houses , too big a chance to hit one of the houses. It ended up costing us 7,300.00

Wow, that is expensive.
We had two large spruce trees cut down close to front of the house, it took 3 guys with a cherry picker about 4 hours and it was $ 800

Hubby has a hunting buddy who has a side business of tree removal. The last time we needed some Ash taken down we traded some stuff we had laying around that he wanted. It worked to all of our advantage. This time around was a cash deal but it was much less than either of you paid. Mind you the only tree that was near the house was a mountain ash that was maybe about 30 feet tall so not a big danger. I have to have hydro in to look at a couple of ash that have branches in the wires. One is already dying. The last time I had a split tree near the wires they came in and cut it down and cut the trunk into log lengths and cut the limbs at the trunk and I was responsible for the rest of the clean up. I thought they were pretty fair about it.
I still have lots of ash in the yard. Two big beautiful ones stand just feet from my chicken coop. They will be tricky ones to get down when the time comes because they can't fall in any direction so they will need to be dissected. And then I may need to relocate the coop as they will be baked all day long!

Sometimes I think I'm too old to live... I'm so sore again right now... but obviously age. I'm still doing stuff I've always done, only now it so wears me out. Its aggravating!

I filled the hand sprayer and sprayed round up all around the horse pasture fence, which houses equipment and the electric wire that goes thru to the cow pasture side by side. There are SO many trees coming up (thorn/elderberry) and nettles trying to short out the fence. Not to mention the grapevines. I hate to do it, but its a must. I did all around the shed and all thistles and burrs I could find. All that walking and carrying the sprayer made my arms feel like they are twenty feet long, lol. I had to leave my beer in the golf cart, when I crossed the fence, and by the time I got back to it, it was warm. I got up early today, as in every day, so 9am was beer time, lol. It was a Bud radler.. so good.

Saw what I thought was a guinea fight in the garden, and roared up in the golf cart to see... and it was a red-tailed on top of one of the white ones. Looked like a bucking bronco show... guinea got away and flew to the top of my clothesline pole. Then I saw its friend/mate fly over the house, while the other went barn way. I had locked ALL my hens out of the chicken house for the day, because there is a hen in there hatching keets. Every single day, there is a couple eggs in there, so I can't have any babies harmed while they hatch. Besides, if they fall out of the nest, (corner horse feeder), they may get eaten. I also put the young peacock back into the horse barn pen. All the hens can get under the stock trailer or come into the main barn via the walk thru door, or the horse barn door.

Tagged 4 new babies born yesterday and last night sometime. Two left their babies out around the bale feeder, and are constantly blatting for them inside the overhang for them. Dumb cows. Lazy cows.

I weeded the pathetic garden last night, and some in the flower garden. Taking the weekend off from cutting grass. Do about 12 hours a week on that. Planted more squash and pumpkins. Say 95 days, so still time. Seeing as how they seem to all be ripe in September anymore... but I think it was still too cold in the ground, only a few in each 'hill' came up. Peppers are starting to green up with the heat finally. Have them all on black plastic... to warm the ground quicker, but the cold winds of a couple weeks and night temps haven't allowed them to really get going. Tomatoes like this heat too. Ground cherries I put in, most rotted away. Potatoes look good... and garlic has the leek moth in it again. Sprayed it twice already with BTK.

Love those new asian pests that show up from time to time. Got to be asian.

Got a coon thats been pulling nest stuff and probs babies out of the blue bird nests. Someone frigged up my live trap, so it took 3 days of baiting with cat food, before I finally caught it. AND a nest of guinea eggs in the old garden by the stone house eaten. Why can't they go live in the bush and stay there.

Made some fresh hummingbird nectar, and going out to fill the niger feeders. Its a hay day here today, but won't bale dry. Probably going to silage it. Have a guy lined up, but maybe he won't be able to come until later today, or tomorrow. I guess if it can't be wrapped right away, thats the way it goes. Supposed to rain tomorrow, and with the way of things, it likely will.

Only 3 more driving days with the bus. 2 more exam days, and Wed. is exam review day, which no one goes in... but have to do the whole morning run incase they want a ride into town to play. There hasn't been anyone on the last day at night, and if so, bus will be driven right to the yard for the summer.

Well, sat long enough. Even sitting too long is painful, lol. Have a great rest of the weekend all!
Here are a couple shots of my garden, and flowers. And grand-daughter Grace who I babysat Friday, smelling a beauty allium.

hi everyone

don't forget @Bayvistafarm i have eos and ameraucanas for you! i saved back 4 guineas, 2 are very white keets and the other two are either royal purple or pearl grey.....they were under the heat plate so all i saw was stripy heads lol. hoping that at least 1 will end up being a girl....

been a long long week here. last weekend i ended up at emerg here in newbury, transferred to London by patient transport, and then finally released on tuesday afternoon. Turns out i have bad genes. go figure. have to go see a cardiologist now and follow up for the rest of my life, and possibly end up having ablation surgery because my heart seems to think that 150 beats a minute is good for it. atrial fibrillation they said, but then no, atrial flutter....which would be interrupted with atrial fibrillation. so anyways, if anyone wonders what it is like to have electro-cardioversion (shocked to get your heart rate right) well, it's JUST like being hit by lightning, only quieter. i should know, had both happen now. finally starting to feel a bit more human. thinking about swimming this afternoon....

garden is weeded, grass is cut. newly planted maple trees and fruit trees now have water buckets with small holes put beside them for watering, since we've had 3 whole days without any rain. Still can't get onto the clay to plant. if the rain would hold off one more day then it could happen tomorrow. we are considering just letting everything lay fallow for the year, do what drainage we need to do and then plant winter wheat in the fall....drainage needs digging up the driveway, so it is a big job.
went to the melbourne chicken bbq yesterday, great time! actually won a 25$ gift card to the nearest gas station LOL. yay! and a pound of beef from a local beef farmer. can't complain about that!

have the first green peppers ready in the garden, first zucchini, and tomatoes are not far behind! the onions are doing better this year-never had any luck with those. asparagus is just about done and of course the weeds have started! the mint is about 4 feet tall. i have never seen mint this tall. thinking i'll start drying it for tea. My red palm turkeys have been laying up a storm lately, i just scooped 6 eggs and put them into the incubator last night. my final rhodebar and welbar hatches are in the basement brooder, along with a few guineas. my 2 new muscovy ducklings are growing like weeds. need to process some boys and then move all those kids outside to grow up. have some chickens to go to the neighbours-they want to start their own flock :-) so i'll give them a few of my cull birds that would just be headed to the layer coop here anyways.

our puppy has found out she fits through the chicken door of the coop....managed to lock her in the other day and we had a small conversation about dogs, coops, chickens, eggs and egg farts....i don't think she learned much. we'll see. hope everyone has an awesome rest of the weekend!

Well I hope your weekend certainly improves!
I have a junior first timer turkey on some eggs and I checked them this am. Shocked to see the air sacs were drawing down. We'll see how she does since the others tend to bully her a bit especially after she tried to kidnap a baby!

Hey WLL, glad you are back. Your dog goes in the chicken hatch? Well I can't wait till my little bottle baby goat gets big enough she cant go in that hatch. Other question for you, with that ablation, zapping for your heart, does it make a difference that you have that metal in your back? Just sort of wondering if it affects how or where they do it. And just looking at the forecast, says 70% chance of rain and thunder showers you and me tomorrow. Well I should go dig some new potatoes for supper and Pick some strawberries for desert and trim my little horse's feet.

yeah it affected doing the ultrasound for sure because of not being able to lie down the way they wanted...left side down but with shoulders up to open up the rib cage. mine doesnt open because i cant bend at the waist....oh well. they managed. and yes the electric current shock thingy also travels the bars inside. and the burn from the electrode is directly over the metal in my back. but it worked. whatever. a nightmare i would rather never repeat....now to get my blood pressure over 98/65....

my potatoes will flower soon. cant wait for new potatoes. we ate the first zucchini from the garden tonight. and a head of lettuce from the garden too! so sweet.....so much better than store bought!!!! peppers soon and tomatoes have loads of little tomatoes already!!
