I will still use the incubator as right now the girls are all fighting over the best broody spot and eggs get broken and tossed out of the nest. I still want my broodies to bring up the chicks however, I find the chicks much healthier and its getting more difficult to treat sick ones with limited meds available.

I totally agree with you. Mom's and baby chicks outside works best. My black silkie has started to lay again so she's done Mothering at 6 weeks. Dixie and her chicks are at week 4, so the deserted chicks are hanging out with her group. I love Silkies

Jaye my namesake guy "Happy" hatched with wryneck. He couldn't stand on his own and therefore couldnt eat on his own. I wasnt working at the time and had nothing but time and stubbornness on my side. I carried him in my pocket or in my hand for 2 weeks. He went to the Orillia Pipes and Drums festival, the pharmacy, the grocery store (secretly) and family gatherings. He ate soaked chick crumble out of a syringe about every hour and got vitamin B, E and Selenium. It was a ton of work and if I had any kind of a life at the time it would not have been doable. In the end Happy never was "normal". Don't second guess yourself.
As for the remainder of your hatch...it sounds much like my last experience hatching and I really don't have the guts for it. I prefer the experts do the hatching (the hens)!
I prefer that the experts do the hatching too. However, my only broody hen has retired.
Thanks for the reminder about Happy, your little house rooster, Happy. I needed the reminder that even if I had known what to do, and was confident in my ability to do it, it would have been pretty much a full time job for the next little while. Bringing it to work with me isn't on.
As it is, I have two brooders for two chicks, because, well, I have a Brabanter chick that really does not play well with others. And of course, has proven to be high maintenance since hatch. I was cleaning up pasty butt last night at 3:00 am after his cheeping woke me up. Nothing before bedtime, but a good sized solid plug at 3:00 in the morning.

But Happy had the best of lives while he was on this earth, you gave him everything.
I second that!

Thank-you ladies. And yes Jaye that was exactly my point. I kept reading what an easy fix wry neck was and maybe in some instances it is but it wasn’t my experience. In any event we still miss Happy Gilmore. Every time one of the littles breaks into the house and I hear the taptaptaptaptap of their little feet on the hardwood floor I think of him.

Jaye I usually find they get pasty butt if they get chilled. Funny with a hen they never get pasty butt, they run around get chilled but then run to momma cuddle under her and are soon warmed up.

That's good to know, Kenya. I didn't know that chicks getting chilled would result in a pasty butt. My two have both been under an electric hen since they hatched. The only time I can think that the Brabanter chick may have gotten chilled was while we were extricating her butt from the shell, and soaking off chunks of shell from her back and behind, so that's probably when it happened.
I did have one other chick with a pasty butt that was a graft under a broody. She had probably gotten chilled on the ride home, although I did have the car seat heater on under their box.

Progress update as of this past Monday: Since moving into their new bigger brooder in the garage, the two hatch mates have agreed to tolerate each other for the most part. I am trying sand as a bedding and so far am really liking it. Easy clean-out with a fryer skimmer I bought at the dollar store. Seems to work well as a heat sink under the electric hen too.

I use sand in everything except my nesting boxes! Works great. They are adorable 😁

I got the idea to use sand in the brooder from one of your other posts @Kbr42 . Thanks! :-)
I just noticed the size of their crops in the pic I posted - little piggies!
