OC i think you may be right about the catastophising! my cellphone app (i'm a beta tester for the new environment canada weather app-which has been quite good and actually quite accurate to now) now helpfully gives me all the warnings for every district/area that i have driven to in the last 3 months. so that means london, sarnia, windsor, west elgin, middlesex county and hamilton and woodstock and various points in between.....and there's multiple warnings....cold weather, severe cold weather warnings and watches, severe weather warning and watch, oh and the "extreme" cold weather warning and watches (that's more severe than "severe" i think?)....but helpfully there is an article right on the weather app that says the news story entitled "colder than mars" is actually inaccurate and with the extremely helpful statement that while the mars rover (which incidentally seems to be ON mars) was -7C, mars is usually around -125C, so. helpful. So should that be entitled "mars rover at location on mars warmer than most of canada?"....haha oh, and i have ZERO desire to be one of those people that are volunteering to go and live on mars....nope nadda, i'll keep my earth weather here thanks because on average we actually are much warmer than mars....(except yesterday and today apparently). there has got to be a setting i can turn off in the phone, because it populates my location based on my phone....which means the last update turned off my "turn off tracking" so it's on again....or something. while i have friends in hamilton, i honestly don't really care what it's doing there on any given day...LOL

i'm curious too what people think about battery operated blowers....i would worry about freezing the battery in this weather....not that gas is super easy to start in this weather either. thinking next tractor may be a gas tractor.

The battery gets removed and recharged in the house.
The reason I am considering it, is that I am VERY happy with my rechargeable grass trimmer, don't believe I let the guys use the loud gas machine that did so much damage around trunk of trees, it took years to heal, and for me to revisit the grass trimmer gizmo again.
Rechargeable lis ight enough to be used by "mature" female person with good aim, no damage to trees or flowers. ;)

Sounds great OC! What make did you get? I'm very interested in getting a rechargeable grass trimmer, that is light and won't kill my back!

Exciting morning (I think?). Baby Clanger did his first crow! He is still with Mum BTW who is showing no signs of throwing him out.

Jumping in here.....I have about 20 Ryobi tools...I in fact have 2 lights that hang in my silkies coop at night that use the batteries. I have a 6 battery charger and 6 batteries. We have a grass trimmer, leaf blower ( also handy for blowing snow of cars) and the rest are my tools. They have always worked great. I have very small hands so I can grip them just fine and they aren't too heavy. I have a few clients that I have converted to the same tool line and they have purchased 2 snowblowers and a chainsaw....

Thanks very much for the recommendation. ( I never thought about using a leaf blower to blow snow!!!!) In case you are a gardener, I had the most fantastic recommendation from a friend who owns a plant nursery. She has a Ryobi reciprocating saw with pruning blades in it. It makes short work of any branches under 4" in diameter and I wouldn't be without mine! Had to buy Black and Decker, as hubby had other tools with the same rechargeable battery and it made sense. Very happy with that :).

I got Black&decker , mainly because I already had the leaf blower and they use the same 20V battery, that way one is recharging while I am using the other one and if I still have the energy after the first battery expired (25min) I can just pop in a fresh battery and continue.
Weight was a number one consideration.
Since I don't buy a toaster without extensive research (ie reading all 360 reviews ;)
I find that the rechargables have come a long way even in the last 10 years and mostly people are unhappy with them when they buy a tool not appropriate for the job.
Thanks Kbr42 for the snow off the car suggestion, great idea for the roof I can't reach.

I had Hawaii set up on the weather network as well. Weather Warning - High Wave - surf conditions - sheesh - that sucks
