Showgirl
I just thought I would post this picture of my only buff showgirl. She is inside because at the moments because she thinks it's spring and she should be broody. Now, I happen to have a hatch due in 6 days......if I don't break her of being broody...you think she can handle 11 chicks

Re: Showgirl
it depends - are they full sized chicken chicks or bantams?

Oh she can easily handle 11 chicks if she accepts them. Pretty girl! Are you going to keep her inside with all her chicks? They will be adorable, who can deny silkie chicks. Pictures please!!!
Remember we had someone else on her whose broodie silkie took about 20 chicks. Anyone remember?

They are silkies and showgirls...mine...I have been waiting for a year and a half to hatch these guys. I'll see if she stays broody....if she does ill bring her inside when the chicks hatch I thin it's too cold for chicks outside in the coop. She is a beauty.

Re: Showgirl
How long has she been broody? If she's been seriously dedicated broody for longer than a few days, she should be fine to accept them. I've grafted chicks to my Silkie twice and each time it went seamlessly. I brought her inside and tucked the chicks under her at night. As a precaution, I got up to check on her before light the next morning.

Oh silkie chicks how exciting!
Makes me think I should hatch some out.
No No No I will not surcome.

Re: Showgirl
She has been broody about a week now. I took her back outside and she immediately went into the nesting box and sat on an egg. If I put my hand under her, she hugs my hand if that makes sense. I think she'll do fine......now all I have to do is get the darn things out of their shells on TuesdayJaye wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 11:46 amHow long has she been broody? Re: Showgirl
Or you can get your Silkie to finish the incubation. Just a thought. If she's that committed, she might be a perfect solution. If it were me, would try putting a couple of test eggs (regular eating eggs) in front of her and see if she tucks them under her.

You bet! I've already done that and the egg disappears in a second! She is only 8 months old and had just started laying. I'm a little nervous to put anything under her to hatch out. She's a little young for that I think....not sure if I'm correct or not. thanks for your thoughts..

Re: Showgirl
On several occasions I've been able to give chicks/poults to Sister even up to a week old although she isn't a silkie. Best of luck!
