Sorry for your loss SusanH . All the memories are still stored in your head like little wrapped gifts waiting to be opened when needed & put away till next time . I've personally been there & yes the critters are good listeners & help keep you going at this time & don't talk back .
As Rose Kennedy said " the pain of loss doesn't go away but it eases with time" . Take care & may your husband now be finally at peace . :rip:

It was so hot yesterday afternoon that we took pity on the poor chickens and brought them into the basement at 5pm. Since I already had two dog crates all set up, it wasn't difficult. I left the light on for an hour and then they had an early night. Hopefully, it gave them a reprieve and a good night's sleep. I almost felt bad putting them back out there this morning!

My critters have heard it all i think, they listen amazing. Hang in there, it will get easier with time, but never quite the same....HUGS

another stinker here again today. i sure hope this breaks tonight like the weather folks are saying. i will likely have 2 that will need dispatch later today i think. one is a definite electrolyte imbalance, and this heat has made it almost impossible to keep up with giving him the electrolytes, and the second is one that is being outcompeted from the water and food....a wussy little light brown leghorn. i have water buckets and dishes EVERYWHERE-everything from horse buckets to pans to dog dishes to waterers.....lol and last night filled them with ice too....emptied the ice maker in the freezer and the birds were having fun chasing it around the water dishes. i found some birds actually standing in the water dishes (we had to change a lot of them yesterday) to keep cool....but so far so good. my turkeys are faring way better than the chickens. amazingly. this weekend will likely be a processing weekend for cockerels. i'm overrun. it's a tad noisy in the morning. maybe once those are gone it won't be as much work....hm.
