Not a traditional reading book but I've spent hours flipping through it. Just thought of including this here today because I'm making my family's all time favorite carrot cake (x2) and the recipe comes from here. Lots of great info.

I'm also making a gluten free/low sugar version for my diabetic mother and gluten free sister in law. First time for that one so should be interesting!

Thankfully I only make carrot cake once a year!

My all time favourite cookbook. "Mennonite Community Cookbook" By Mary Emma Showalter
First published in 1950 it has over 1100 recipes for homestyle practical rural living. Most ingrediants are what are found in country kitchens.
Even includes soap making and food for a barn raising. Each chapter begins with a short intro on how life was in those days.
