starlings are moving into everywhere again, building a nest in the lid of the propane tank, and all along the eaves of the barn again. this weekend the wire is going up. i'll likely take the pressure washer to the barn if it's still warm, chase them all out and then wire over every little crevice i can find. i'm DONE with these filthy things. they're noisy poop producing machines. gah!
The starlings are a fairly smart bird. Fire up the pellet gun and they will learn to stay away. Sealing up the access points like you said is excellent too.

....the Daffodils are under the snow here yet.

hi folks! question posted at What's missing from the forum?? please check it out and add your thoughts!

fingers crossed that what is predicted in the weather today here doesn't happen like they're predicting (20cm snow, freezing rain, blowing and gross-ness). hopefully the last trip to the vet for my dog tomorrow for this scratched eye! it's doing so much better....and he's tired of me dropping drops into it. he's actually making sure to lay down with that side closest to the floor so i can't get there LOL.
candling this weekend, will see what is developing and what isn't! fingers crossed for good fertility-at least what i'm eating/cooking with seems to be fertilized.....

Speaking of fertility, I haven't been able to find a blastodisc (or preferably blastoderm) on the yolks of any of the quail eggs I've remembered to check before cooking them. I'm assuming that there is one, just too small for my old eyes to spot maybe.

Good morning! What a lovely, clear day it is!
Yesterday, we let the chickens out of the barn and into part of their outside enclosure. We could tell that they wanted "more".

i want my little kestrel back :-) she did an awesome job of getting rid of all the sparrows and starlings! but, alas, she moved on somewhere else....i am going to revisit the pellet gun idea....i have to find a fps that doesn't punch our steel...my lightest .22 load punches the steel, and i don't want to put (more) holes in the barn....we've already had our oopsies with the tractor and the door frame LOL.

Perhaps a pump pellet gun....that way you can meter out your fps through experience.

Checking out the fertility and the only girl Chunky is getting is the mutt hen in with them to make up numbers for him (overenthusiastic sometimes). Looks like it's time for their bikini wax.
