Oh...I'm sitting in a Muskoka chair in the shade...with a beer. I just delivered three truckloads of wood to a neighbour (my #1 customer), sitting by the kiddie pool making sure the geese don't jump in (they have been locked up all week unless under direct supervision...the new barnyard fence hasn't happened yet and they were free all summer until one boss lady learned she could jump in easy). Been eating cukes and tomatoes all week...I'm glad Carla put in a garden. Lots of pumpkins happening...some are growing feral on the manure pile. Mom and dad are in the city at my cousins place so its nice n quiet here. Nothing but turkeys and chickens chirping...plus crows, swallows (wow there must be 20 around the barn), crickets, blue jays, and some other bird. This place has never seen chemicals so frogs and snakes and bugs (and friggin weeds) are everywhere. Temp is perfect...23 or 24...mosquitoes are done. The pugs and duchess (doberman mix) are hanging out with me. Carla's on her way...Thai chicken on the menu tonight..I should do dishes..... Ahhhh..They'll get done later. Oh yeah..got a new kitchen tap in a box...gotta do that soon..old one's leaking...i'll do that tomorrow. Steph (brother) Expects me to go to his place and cut hay now that weather is decent...this beer is good...maybe tomorrow...nope...got a full day of appointments tomorrow..gotta go in early get stuff off in the courier...hmmm Friday Steph is off and he can do his own freakin hay...boy the turkeys like the picnic table...we never sit there...too many bugs to eat outdoors. Plus the bbq ran out of gas a month ago...gotta get to that. Frikkin generator...gotta put a new rope on it...hope the power doesn't go out anytime soon. Damn hose is leaking on the Kubota...I wonder if I can put tape around it? Oh yeah goin for dinner at Dave's Friday night...gotta put his animal carriers in the car...can't forget them again...dagnabbit...gotta go for another beer... And this WLlady...with her frickin to do list...is she showing off or something? I am sure my to do list is longer....that poor Martin guy...he must be a saint...

Two males and four hens. That fox that hit me two weeks ago took out a few turkeys. Only two left :(

Aug 31st cloudy (dark) and a high of 15? Where's my summer? What about Indian summer? (Can we still say that or is it not PC?)

I had one bug free evening in the chair!

Bonfire last night and only 1 measly little (now dead) mosquito. It was awesome! And saw some shooting stars too! Martin and his daughter are off to Toronto (yay, more driving....lol) to do the requisite touristy CN tower and then see Niagara Falls on the way home. So i slept in. Yay! I would just slow em down....too much walking for me. Yeah hubby is a saint-but i do pretty much all my own to-do lists.....at least NOW i do. Not so much before....i do get to spread the manure today-spreader is full....and swept out the barn and cleaned some stuff upstairs and put everything back on the shelves from the turkey caper i wish i had seen lol
right now tho the chore is to drink some tea.
Looks like my dad bought a kubota with loader and snow blower and chains and all for the winter! To be delivered later next week. Theyre gonna need it! The driveway is a serious 45 degree angle and 500 feet long with a switchback up to the house. They are on top of a mountain in vermont. Gorgeous views across the valleys....with white river junction at the bottom of the hill. Dad is convinced he will do his own driveway in the winter, and i am sure he will enjoy every second on the tractor. My stepmom also told me that she drove the tractor and is faster getting up into the tractor than my dad so she might be able to get into it before he does!! Me thinks she likes it.....
yep meetings at work today-one of my students is defending their PhD so i need to go in for a couple hours this afternoon. Will probably get a start on digging potatoes before i go.
Yep baron....lots to do! Garden is ready to harvest the squash and potatoes and i am sure more tomatoes (lots of ketchup made yesterday). Nice and cool, perfect weather for it!!

Dont forget to vote for the picture of the month if you havent already!

Chilly morning. It inspires one to bake, blanche, and can to help warm the house up. It's only 60 in here! The pantry and freezer are filling up pretty quickly and it feels good. My honey do list is soooo long with hubby and all the kids gone, it's just me and this brisk morning air has me in a bit of a panic. There is still so much to do before winter and it feels like she is coming early this year. All the young birds are growing out beautifully, it makes choosing the ones for freezer camp hard. Enjoy the day.

Good morning,
So summer is done?
Lifted half the potatoes, I must say although I like the Yukon gold, it's a pathetic average of 5 potatoes per hill, glad we don't depend on them for winter food.
Some maples are starting to turn, and all those lovely large green tomatoes might go strait to black if this is the way temperatures are going to continue.
Was going to say at least it's sunny, but it isn't that anymore either.
