JimW, what will you cross the leghorn, sussex and brahma hens with? :pop:

(now I know you said they weren't for breeding, this is just in theory ;-) )

Brilliant! I've just started hoarding large cardboard boxes.

Love Speckled Sussex, not surprised so many people want to add them to their flock.

The Buff Brahmas will go with my Light Brahma trio.

I have not thought about the leghorns and sussex. Now you got me thinking, I will have to look into that.

If you are looking for buff brahmas, JimW, get in touch with Seayview. She breeds them and they are beauties. She may have some to sell.

Thanks Jay

I will keep that in mind. I mainly ordered a few from Performance just to add something to my Houdan order to make the trip worth my while.

Well, placed my order.
5 straight run silver Dorkings,
5 female Anconas,
10 straight run Appenzeller (Spitzhauben),
7 Straight run Embden goslings.

I both regret ordering so many (those geese aren't cheap, but darned if I can find a hatchery that sells them anymore) and ordering so few, LOL. I definitely wanted to try a bigger variety, and more of them to increase chances of getting something decent, but I have to retain space for the meat birds Richard wants in Spring. Maybe next year! Or maybe I'll change my mind again, and have to adjust my order lol I REALLY wanted more Dorkings, but 5 is enough to try, right?
I'm waiting on area feed mills hatch days to get the handful of production layers I want...significantly cheaper.

The year we ordered 5 each of the straight run Dorkings and Spitzhabens, we got all males! Very disappointing but they were very nice and tasted good! Last year the odds with the Hamburgs was much better....
