I did a dumb dumb! Two hens wanted to hatch so I set each with six eggs and I added 8 extra in the incubator. That way they have a good group each to raise. I marked the calender and they were suppose to hatch this Saturday. By this afternoon nothing, no chicks under the hens, no chicks in the incubator. I realized after that I marked the calender wrong, they are coming NEXT weekend. Trouble is I stopped turning the eggs because I thought they were going to hatch. I don't think they have been turned since Friday morning. I turned them this afternoon. I wonder now if I screwed up my babies??? What do you think?

Re: I screwed up!
It isn't a big problem to stop turning eggs early, eggs don't need to be turned after 14 days of incubation so you should be fine

Whew! I hope you are right. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote the dates down.

Yup after 14 you don't really need to turn them but I still do. Sometimes I forget and turn them right up to hatch and might even not notice till a chick has already hatched.

Lol how on Earth do you forget hatch day?! Not making fun...I wish I could do that because it means you lost track of it! I'm on day 13 with my Bator (in 1 hour and 24 minutes) lol
Clearly I need to be busier!

Re: I screwed up!
I wrote in the wrong calendar box, I marked "set hens" on June 4, which proves I need a brain tuneup because some eggs have June 10 and 12 written on them. Can't set eggs on the fourth that won't come for another 6 to 8 days! Lol

Re: I screwed up!
Erm, not to nitpick, but if a hen laid an egg on the 12th, and you set it on the 12th, it still wouldn't hatch on a Saturday unless it was 2 days early or 5 days late :/

Re: I screwed up!
That's ok www lol. Most were set on the tenth and a few on the twelfth, so I am expecting chicks that weekend but some will come Monday. They will be bantams so maybe arrive a day early. I have had bantams show up day 18 and be perfectly normal.windwalkingwolf wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2017 10:19 pmErm, not to nitpick, but if a hen laid an egg on the 12th, and you set it on the 12th, it still wouldn't hatch on a Saturday unless it was 2 days early or 5 days late :/
