Good morning everyone. For some reason my dogs think 6:00 is time to get up now, so for the last few days I have been up early. I started collecting EO hatching eggs yesterday, and ordered some new Ameraucana hatching eggs. I am looking forward to the chickies. It's sunny, windy, and cold here today. There are still a few touches of snow in shady spots, but otherwise it looks like spring again. Some johnny-jump-ups and wild violets have started to bloom. Have a good day!

Well it looks like they're dropping like flies LOL! 4 more turkey girls declined to go to roost last night and they're still sitting on nests. Funny things too, looks like we have co-nesting again 2 girls in one broody coop 2 in another.

Re: Good Morning!
Are you going to let them all sit? I can't imagine trying to break a broody turkey would be easy! BTW I chuckled at the name "Kathleen"...does she have a last name? When I named a chick Liza last year it wasn't long before we were calling her Liza Minelli. Now she often just gets called Minelli. I'd be calling your turkey "Turner" for sure!Killerbunny wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:03 amWell it looks like they're dropping like flies LOL! 4 more turkey girls declined to go to roost last night and they're still sitting on nests. Re: Good Morning!
3 of my jennies are brooding too....4 really 2 in each pen. They take turns on the eggs. But last night they were all piled onto the eggs so...calendar marked...we shall see if they are successful!! First time brooding for 3 of them. The other has hatched last year but chicken eggs not turkeys. Lol
slow day. Drive yesterday pushed it. Oh well. Have pasture seed to spreaf and some composted manure to spread and roses to plant and a grapevine to plant. But i have bread in the oven right now and if i leave the house i will forget about it!!

I will let them sit. I will only give them a few eggs each and then check fertility in a week.Happy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:11 amAre you going to let them all sit? Names - My main Tom is Stephen (Harper) he's a great big turkey. Unfortunately he's soooo sweeet I feel bad about naming him that.
Kathleen (Wynne) is my dominant, rather bossy main Jennie. Excellent Mama though. My other turkey of the original group is quiet, sweet and spends her life being a touch confused and ineffectual, her name is Kim (Campbell). the male I overwintered last year was called Justin but he got culled when he got snotty and was not true to standard anyway. The current Jake has no name except #41 (his wing tag. The unfortunately banded lap turkey is #2.

Re: Good Morning!
Good afternoon,
Deluge here, perfect day to do all the things inside, if only they weren't so boring.
Why oh why is it that all the inside chores are boring and all the outside chores are fun?
Looking at the old time farming families, when the jobs were clearly marked as "woman's job" inside and man's job outside, I think we have been jibbed, because I certainly prefer the "man's" jobs and in the modern time I seem to get to do both.
when I would really prefer a role reversal :) BTW, I am a baby boomer, just for time reference.
Have a dry one!

Re: Good Morning!
Same OC...my days outside are so productive and go by so quickly! Today I'm cleaning laundry room, mopping, fridge clean-cut...boring stuff that causes me to take a break every 30 mins or so lol. I need to get out and dig up sod for another 20' hosta garden along my new fence and I always get lots of chicken help doing those projects! Hoping for sun!Ontario Chick wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 2:05 pmGood afternoon,
