Good Morning!

Post by WLLady » Tue Mar 14, 2017 11:49 am

Holy smokes guys!! Al tnats great!!! Glad you got the photo before it came down. Next time y'all come a visit martin and them should build a tebuchet. I think i have a box of popsicle sticks somewhere - but martin, we will need to find the glue.....lol (yes, we have 3 kinds of glue in a safe place....darned if we can find the safe place!!!)

We got about 1/4 of the snow predicted. Thank goodness!! Its sunny but the winds are yucky....blowing snow....looks like winter again.

So last night by 7 i was missing my bed in the livingroom to lay down on....i have to remember to go upstairs for a bit just before dinner and lay down. My plan is to try for 2 half days the first week and see how that goes and if its okay go to 3 half days the next and then work up to 3 full days before heading back full time. Its 2 hours a day driving, and last time i was in a car 2 days in a row it took 4 days to recover...if i work it right i can get a ride in for the first bit until i am used to driving that much, and then start driving after that. I get to hang into my disabled permit a while longer - until i can walk normally so that will help with parking closer. Of course my plan will fit whatever the surgeon says next week!!! He was pretty clear that if theres no bone theres no work so i have been diligently eating my yogurt and vit d and calcium and vitamins and doing my walking and trying to not BLT (bend, lift, twist). If i can grow monsterous bone spurs in under 6 months ya'd think i could grown fusion bone.....

Alas i have not managed to get any photos for the contest....and as of last night we only had 2 entries!!! So get out there and take some photos!!! I will try later today, maybe i can get my one rir girl flying at my head begging for BOSS or something.

Hope every one stays warm and safe!! And hope all the birds are okay and not frozen and all the chicks with moms are warm and safe too! This weather is a bit rude after that beautiful february!!!

Just a quick hello from snowy Pa....LOTS of snow yesterday...and I'd just seen the first flock of robins on Monday....boy were they a sorry looking lot, huddled in trees and under bushes, not moving around...COLD!! Going to get out today hopefully to the store with my daughter after checking on the critters, my grand daughter brought in the eggs yesterday in the snowstorm and the bucket had more snow in it than eggs, lol

I so love it when folks outside of Ontario chime in with news and opinion...yes indeed...we got about 6 inches so far..very fine hard snow...drifting like crazy...the wind is robust and it doesnt make tripping oit to the coops very pleasant but we do what needs doing...i was always looking for a way to keep water fluid in the winter but i have given up on that as i don't have electricity out in the coops...my easiest solve for that was to just have a second set of waterers and have one indoors and just swap them out as required..I make trips out several times a day when i am home anyway...the trade off betwen off grid limits and doing this routine is definitely worthwhile in order to not have a utility bill ....and it lets me spend more time with the birds...win win in my book...a 3 gallon galvanized waterer over at Bakers is around 30$ so the cost of the extra units doesnt add up too much....now, about this drifting snow... :running-chicken:

Morning all!
Must admit i lay in bed this morning listening to the wind howling around the house and blowing the snow against the window and thouht, wow. I am very glad i had surgery and am not going back to work quite yet. I sounded absolutely gross outside, and then i got up and well....its absolutley nasty out. There are snow devils in my field.
The horses have pretty much made a cave out of the hay bale and have climbed in i think.
Snowing and blowing and i am pretty sure my flowers that were up are probably toasted....and the garlic that was up will be yellow on the ends later. Glad i do not have to drive anywhere. Just hope those that do get there and back safely!!
Not much on the list today. Need to check the waterers in the barn and make sure everyone is upright. Need caffeine. Need to do my walking (on the treadmill today!!) And then i am going to attempt to empty the dishwasher....hm....the bottom rack is awfully close to the floor. But today was not a 30 minute 4 letter word filled put my socks on struggle, so maybe just maybe i can get down there....lol. looks like i will be setting on friday to the incubator, tons of chicken eggs and hopefully a few turkeys if bvf feels better and the weather shapes up so she can make the trip. Full incubator this time. 288 eggs or so going in. 2 customs and some for me. I like doing the hatching because theyre fuzzybutts and then on to new homes. :-)
Stay warm and safe everyone!!!

WLLady, those pincer grabbie contraptions are really useful for taking stuff out of the bottom rack of the dishwasher: I used ours the last time I threw my back out. It's a very useful tool that has come in handy for all kinds of things. :-)

Good day! Seeing as how its afternoon now.

Did chores... lay in bed too, and listened to the wind howling. GADS, wth happened with our weather!!!!!!! This will sure make us all the more glad when the spring temps return. Holy nasty out. We didn't get so much snow as they were calling for... although I'm sure Hamilton somewhere got more than we did. Its blowing up some good snowbanks tho.

Muddled thru chores... got a whopping cold, settled in during the night. Could 'feel' it creeping up on me yesterday. Gary brought it home. Geez. I DESPISE being sick. I know NO one likes it.... but being FORCED out in this crappy weather, toting HOT water to bird dishes/pails... and then the very physical work of bedding down the cattle was too much. I never slept ONE wink last night, and find myself on the couch, trying to read, and wanting to fall asleep. I may just go back to bed. Heated mattress pad is CRANKED!! Thanks WLLady.

I sure hope I get there Friday. Got LOTS of turkey eggs for you. Hopefully most are fertile. I took 12 out of the bator that weren't.... but then cracked one of the red palms.. and its fertile all right. Hmmm, maybe its a spotty fertility issue. She IS old. I even asked Gary if he would drive me out, I can languish in the passenger side... if NO one else comes with me.. hint hint... you two know who you are.

Gary is out dealing with blowing snow. Made cinnamon buns for the camp two days ago now.... and took them over. Its a 'treat' I do for the drivers once a year... we just have to have a two day snowstorm for all the guys to come in.... because this batch makes 18! lol.

The shutter has stopped banging against the house. Maybe its tore off now. Finally. Getting sick of listening to it. Nope... still hanging on, lol.

Heard some roaring going on out there, and seen two school buses leaving my yard. They said they were coming for my bus on Wed.... so I guess they did. I had it all cleaned off earlier this morning, and plugged it in.

Ok... off to do something. Get warm mostly!

So it hit us hard on Tuesday (my office colleagues have been meeting Tuesday evenings and thats when the weather hit us...almost every Tuesday since November!). Of course I got home late so I was up late Wednesday morn. Plugged in the big red (60hp tractor). Went out an hour later and turned the key. The tractor started but the starter didn't stop! Shut down the engine (starter still cranking) so I ran for a wrench and disconnected the battery. The key switch is still fairly new and the starter/solenoid was replaced in December! Fricken beast! So I unplugged the yellow wire from the starter, reconnected the battery, got Carla on the tractor, pushed in the yellow wire, started the tractor then pulled off the yellow wire. Tractor is running properly! At least I can blow the snow and figure out the wiring later.

Another repair on the to do list. The kubota still not fixed with a nasty hydraulic leak. Not to mention the starting rope broken on the generator. Freakin frackin, I need a fixit guy around here ( I can do it but too many things on the to do list: the last snowmelt created a roof leak. Then we had freezing rain and the road was perfect ice so I didn't make it home; slept at the next door neighbour...his drive way is flat. Mine is uphill and in a valley...if i'd have tried it I'm sure my vw would be in the creek).

Dang man!!! That sux! When it rains it pours or rather when it snows it freezing rains! I hope you get everything sorted out. Hopefully the started was just a bit frozen. I took a leaky hydraulic line into princess auto and they made up a new one for half the price of tsc, plus I couldn't find the right one at tsc either. I didnt even bother with the tractor dealer cuz I know they are expnsive as heck and it wasnt even my tractor! I was just sick of the owner not fixing it when I used it all the time.

My lil tractor started giving me trouble the other day... of course its just a 40 year old case riding lawnmower I use to haul wood outta the bush and blow snow. I hauled a nice pile out Monday, maybe 2 cords if it was cut n split, my second last trip she wouldnt run without the choke on and on my way back she stalled n wouldnt start, almost to the bush. I killed the battery trying to get it going so I walked back and grabbed some tools and the truck. The spark plugs were wet and she had spark, I was dumbfounded. Eventually I dumped some chainsaw gas in the carb and she started! Of course she only ran with the choke on. I piggy backed the lawn tractor n the truck back home 100 yards at a time. Im guna look at it tommorow cuz I still have 2 loads back there! Im thinking its the fuel filter and she was starving for gas, thats why it had to be choked. Easy fix I hope!

Good luck Baron!
