I've had to put the down, down.
I spoiled myself this summer. I have always had down alternative duvets and I saw sets on sale @ sears for 80% off. Late fall I put it on my bed. I LOVE it. Except.
Today I had to de-feather my room. Down duvet gone and antihistamines while I dealt with feathers everywhere on everything! Room is done, right down to vacuuming baseboards. Time will tell I suppose.
I sneeze every morning. I cough like a smoker every morning. My sinuses drive me bonkers and my nose is running yet stuffy. I'm not pure pleasure to begin with in the morning, but dealing with this on top of other crap that's been a real burden in my life ... I will, for now, assume I'm allergic to the duvet.
Anyone? Anyone ever heard of this? Allergic to down? Seems far fetched to me!
The only other thing that happened around the same time was the turbines started. I have never heard of a down allergy, but I guess after a few days I'll know.
Oh ya, if you're missing your flock they were under my bed and now in the central vac canister.
Think I'll be allergic to my ducks? I don't care. I'm getting ducks. I just won't allow them to sleep with me.

Try a silk comforter, I too had to get rid of the down, love the silk one though. Bought it at Costco.

Actually I am on amazon.com right now looking at silk duvets.
Are they like polyester in feel? They look scratchy almost.

Heard of allergic to down, yes. But honestly only in relation to the mites it grows when it's not cleaned right at the manufacturing plant....

My oldest son had allergy testing when he was quite young and one of his allergy's was the feather pillow he had been sleeping on.

Well, now I'm thinking I need to plop that in Google and see how common down allergies are. I really didn't think it was such a thing.

I was just peeling my eye lid down and scratching my eye while I read this and said ... I actually said this to myself, "I don't have itchy eyes." Then I clicked into what I was doing.
No rash and no eczema. So that's a good thing. Ok, I'm looking forward to some relief.
It also said to wash in very hot water to kill the mites. Gag! I do, thankfully, use an enzyme spray from Norwex on comforters, pillows and beds for mites, so I think I had/have that covered.

I've had to put the down, down.
The feathers are chemically treated and some duvets from China have duck and chicken feathers mixed in, not necessarily cleaned properly at the source.
We have goose down duvets from Canadian Hutterite community, beauties light as a feather
but I will admit they cost a mint.
Use silk comforters for summer, love them too.
